Over a decade ago, Ford claimed that the Mustang Boss Laguna Seca 302 was the best overall Mustang ever made to that point. But then, the carmaker came up with the Laguna Seca Package, which took the Boss reputation one step further. And that is what we have here. A 2012 Ford Mustang Boss Laguna Seca 302.
Epic. That is how Ford described this car back in 2012. The Ford Mustang Boss Laguna Seca 302 was specifically designed for those who loved the racetrack and did not treasure creature comforts that much. Ford credited the new versions with extra body stiffness, a firmer chassis setup, and an aerodynamics package, which was carried over from the Ford Racing Boss 302R racing car.

Ford chose the "Laguna Seca" as part of the name of this version because that is the racetrack where the Mustang Boss 302 won the Trans-Am season in 1970.

The Laguna Seca version wears Pirelli P Zero Corsa R compound competition performance tires on unique red-painted aluminum wheels, 19x9 at the front and 19x10 at the rear.

Also at the rear, Ford mounted a Torsen helical limited-slip differential. Huge cooling ducts for the front brakes and a chassis stiffening redcross X-brace instead of the rear seats, plus transmission oil cooler scoops, were on the list of the mechanical mods.

Customers could order the Ford Mustang Boss 302 Laguna Seca in either Ingot Silver or Black with red accents. This one right here is in the latter color combo. Once they got the delivery of the car, the owner had to install a larger rear spoiler finished in red and a larger front splitter. For the 2013 model year, Ford would take out the Silver and put in the Grabber Blue and School Bus Yellow.

Ford put in the optional Recaro bucket seats in cloth, with the BOSS 302 logo in red stitching, for extra $1,1995. A gauge trio, located at the top of the instrument panel, would show engine temperature, oil pressure, and dynamic performance.

The model came powered by Ford's 5.0-liter engine that generated 440 horsepower (446 PS) and 380 lb-ft (515 Nm), all going straight to the rear axle. It was mated to a six-speed manual transmission and a Torsen limited slip differential. The car did 0 to 60 mph (0 to 97 kph) in 3.9 seconds and could hit 100 mph (161 kph) in 9.2 seconds, with the quarter mile covered in 12.3 seconds at 116.2 mph (187 kph). The needle of the odometer could go as far as 155 mph (250 kph).

Ford produced 750 Laguna Seca units, all built at the Flat Rock plant in Michigan. This car was loud. Literally and figuratively, both. It would scream "Look at me!" and the 5.0-liter V8 would roar, it would zip and zap, getting as much attention as the bride at the wedding.

And the one that we have here, going on sale on eBay, is that breed exactly. One of the 750 examples built is looking for a new owner, number 220, actually. It comes with all the madness of the Boss 302 Laguna Seca. It sports a red front grille surround, red roof, red mirror caps, and red rear spoiler.

The front air splitter is uninstalled, but the future owner can do it. At the opposite end, the bright stainless steel rolled dual exhaust tips provide the typical brutal soundtrack of the 5.0-liter V8.

The odometer reads 37,900 miles (60,994 kilometers). The price includes the Track Key, used, as the name suggests, only on the racetrack. It operates on the powertrain control module (PCM), providing a full track calibration by adjusting the throttle response, activates launch control, and brings along more noise from the V8. The standard black key is also included.

The owner performed some upgrades on the car. The list includes BMR lowering springs, which bring the Mustang closer to the ground, tinted windows, and a custom roll cage, plus RaceQuip Harness in five points. The owner mounted 2013-2014-style headlights.

The Mustang also got the Hurst Short Throw Shifter kit, which brings a reduction in shifter throw, and the Ford Performance Shift Knob.

It comes with a clean North Carolina title and the owner can arrange shipping enclosed or open nationwide or meet up if they are dealing with a local buyer. They say that they have owned many Mustangs, but this one is "peak Mustang. You won't regret anything!" It is, after all, on the verge of becoming a a young classic. And you obviously don’t meet a Ford Mustang Boss Laguna Seca 302 in traffic every day. On the track, either.

The car is listed on eBay, and the auction ends on Tuesday. With two days and 10 hours to go, the bidding only hit $18,700, and the reserve has not been met yet. There is still time for the seven bidders already involved in the auction or new ones to come up with more money.
