Ram's ProMaster has just become futureproof by introducing a new electric derivative. Set to take on the likes of the Ford E-Transit, the zero-emission van just celebrated its online premiere and will go on sale nationwide soon.
Besides the charging port on the driver's side, there are no notable differences between the new Ram ProMaster EV and its gasoline-powered sibling. It features standard LED headlamps and fog lamps and comes in delivery and cargo variants.

Choosing the delivery van means enjoying what the automaker calls an "extended super-high-roof." This model has a 159-inch (4,039 mm) wheelbase, a 2,030 lbs (921 kg) payload, a pocket door, and a rear roll-up door made of anodized aluminum. Joining it later will be the cargo variant with a 3,020 lbs (1,370 kg) payload, cargo lengths of 12 and 13.5 feet (3.65-4.1 meters), and a few other things.

Powering the front axle is an electric motor that generates 268 horsepower (272 ps/200 kW) and 302 pound-feet (409 Nm) of torque. Fed by a 110 kWh battery pack, it can recharge at 50, 85, 125, and 150 kW, with a Level 2 wall box charger of up to 11 kW being available. The all-quiet van's targeted range is up to 162 miles (261 km) in the city, which may not seem that much, but the Ford E-Transit Cargo Van low-roof model can travel 126 miles (203 km).

Opening the door of the 2024 Ram ProMaster EV will reveal a familiar interior layout with a 10.1-inch touchscreen display. The Uconnect 5 is five times faster than its predecessor and features Wi-Fi capability, five user profiles, split-screen functionality, a customizable home screen, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Alexa assistant for remote functionality, and over-the-air updates.

A wireless charging pad is also included, alongside the keyless entry and push-button start, a standard 12V outlet, a USB Type C socket, and an optional 115-volt/150-watt outlet. Interested parties can also tick the heated steering wheel and heated windshield boxes on the options list, and they will have to do the same should they want their EV van to get additional safety gizmos.

Thus, the front parking sensors, active drive assist, adaptive cruise control, rain-sensing wipers, lane keep assist, and intelligent speed assist are available at an extra cost. The standard safety features include crosswind assist, post-collision braking, full-speed forward collision warning, drowsiness detection, automatic high beams, traffic sign information, cornering fog lamps, and reversing camera with dynamic gridlines.

Ram's ProMaster EV family will eventually include five configurations, yet details about them will be released in due course. The same goes for the pricing of each model, as the Stellantis-owned marque hasn't said anything about the Benjamins in the press release that puts the spotlight on the zero-emission van.
