This week, Dodge announced it delivered the 10,000th Officer Protection Package for the Dodge Charger Pursuit police sedans and said it will continue to offer it as standard for the 2019 model year of the cruiser as well.
The package has been on the market since the beginning of last year, after Dodge struck a deal with supplier Intermotive. The purpose of the package is to provide high-tech assistance for police officers, so that may be able to detect otherwise hidden threats.

The package uses the InterMotive Surveillance Mode Module and the Dodge ParkSense rear park assist system to alert officers when movement at the rear of the vehicle is detected.

If motion is detected, a chime will sound to alert the officer of potential danger in the area. By activating the rearview camera, officers can see who is behind the car and what they are up to.

As per the preferences of each of the men and women using it, the system can be programmed to perform additional tasks when detecting a threat: doors can automatically lock, the front windows can roll up, reverse lights can turn on and tail lights can begin to flash.

“We knew it was the right thing to do for all the men and women who protect us on a daily basis, and we are gratified to know that over 10,000 of these heroes now have a better chance of avoiding rear ambush occurrences,” said in a statement Steve Beahm, FCA head of car brands.

"I’m also pleased to announce that we will continue to offer this package free of charge on our 2019 model-year Dodge Charger Pursuits.”

The Dodge Charger Pursuit is the best-selling police sedan in the U.S. It is powered by a 5.7-liter HEMI V8 that develops 360 horsepower and 390 lb.-ft. of torque.

For the new model year, the car features a new front fascia with integrated brake-cooling air ducts and a new performance-tuned, load-leveling suspension.
