One Chinese man has become the butt of all jokes after his idea of washing his car without paying a fee at the local car wash backfired, and nearly killed him and ruined his SUV.
Luckily, the man is ok and so is his car, which has been rescued from a local river after a long intervention by the Dujiangyan Fire Services Department from China’s Sichuan Province. The man is also an Internet star after video of the incident was posted on social media, where it instantly went viral.
According to South China Morning Post, the man wanted to clean his Land Rover Discovery without paying money to someone to do it. So he came up with the idea of driving into a local river and doing the job himself, thus saving 20 yuan, which is approximately $3. Sure, the amount is petty, but that’s how he probably got to have nice things, by saving every little penny.
Sadly for him, he didn’t do his research, or he would have found out that the dam gates upstream open at certain hours, and this is precisely what happened. The river was flooded and the man became trapped in his SUV, as it was submerging into water.
He managed to get out and seek refuge on a piece of dry land, where he called the cops. The Fire Services Department was also dispatched, and both man and car were eventually dragged out of the river and back on solid ground, to safety.
No word on whether he’s facing any kind of legal or pecuniary repercussion for his stunt. The latter would probably sting him the worst, especially after going through all this effort to have a clean car without paying 3 lousy bucks.
Meanwhile, he also has to accept the fact that people will be laughing at him for this for the rest of his life.
