Even though it's eight years old and a replacement model is nowhere in sight, Mitsubishi still produces the slightly agricultural Shogun full-size SUV, also known as the Montero and Pajero in various parts of the world. Nevertheless, that hasn't stopped the Japanese manufacturer's U.K. division to launch a new addition to the Shogun lineup, baptized Shogun SWB Barbarian.
We completely agree that the Mitsubishi Shogun is a pretty potent vehicle when the going gets rough and you need to get to your summer residence up in the mountains, but calling it the Barbarian is a bit of an overkill. Conan the Barbarian approves. Now let's get over the uninspired name and look through the details.

Described as a "progressive evolution of Mitsubishi’s classic off-roading status symbol that combines authentic four-wheel drive go-anywhere ability with bold, muscular styling," all we can see is a short wheelbase Mitsubishi Shogun wearing pearlescent black paint, 20-inch gloss black-and-silver alloy wheels and chrome surrounds on the headlights. On the road, you can categorize it as being just another Chelsea tractor.

If you put the kitschy aesthetics aside, you're left with an authentic off-roader with short front overhang, flared wheel arches and strong high flanks, stylistic elements that underline the Mitsubishi Shogun's capabilities. The SWB Barbarian also gets a leather interior with carbon inserts, DAB digital radio, a color coded spare wheel cover and an alloy pedal kit. Exterior colors available include the Black Pearl pictured above, Frost White, Eiger Grey and Cool Silver.

Coming with a 3-year/unlimited mileage warranty together with a pan-European roadside assistance package, the U.K.-special Mitsubishi Shogun SWB Barbarian is an insurance group 33A vehicle which costs £31,999 for the manual transmission version. If you need an automatic, the prices hikes to £33,684.
