Lithuanian Company Gives First Renault Twingo New Purpose as EV

The first generation Renault Twingo was a reinvention of the quintessential small, light and nimble French hatchback, and it was launched in an era when cars were getting duller, heavier and larger. It was taken out of production in France, in 2007, when it was replaced with the new model, which we tested and liked a lot!
Now, though, a Lithuanian company is recycling these old Twingos, giving them a fully-electric powertrain (and a new name - Elektromobilis ELECTRON), with a range of between 60 and 100 km, and a top speed of between 80 and 120 km, depending on the range setup. It also gets a through makeover, getting repainted and refitted, as well as gaining new and more modern headlights and 13-inch alloy wheels. Owners can even specify the fitting of solar panels on the roof, but we say that for this kind of vehicle, and the kinds of applications it will be used for, they are really not necessary.

The basic version of the car is available for purchase at just under €8,700, including VAT, and it also gets the battery and charger thrown in, so no more having to ‘lease the battery’, and pay at least €60 - €80 per month. This EV makes real sense, and it can be a practical alternative for those who want a new EV, but can’t really afford more than a basic supermini. Please note that the video presentation is in Lithuanian - you can mute it and play a nice song in the background.
