The Raging Bull of Sant'Agata Bolognese is putting the finishing touches on two plug-in hybrids, with both packing twin-turbo V8 engines. Spied by carparazzo Varryx just outside Lamborghini's factory in Italy, the LB63x and Urus PHEV will be out in 2024 for model year 2025, marking the bitter end of internal combustion-only raging bulls.
Whatever the LB63x may be called, it will disappoint Huracan owners due to its eight-cylinder engine that uses exhaust gases to spool the turbos. Looking on the bright side, a twin-turbo setup also means that peak torque is delivered at lower engine speeds, resulting in better acceleration. It's not clear whether the LB63x is rear- or all-wheel drive, but nevertheless, the instant peak torque of the electric motor(s) will further improve acceleration.

Based on exterior styling and the hard points of the chassis, the newcomer is obviously twinned with the V12-powered Revuelto. The automaker's flagship supercar features three electric drive units: two up front and one mounted on the transverse-mounted Graziano dual-clutch transmission.

Lamborghini claims 1,015 cavalli vapore or 1,001 mechanical ponies at full chatter. In other words, the Revuelto has more power than a Bugatti Veyron. Regarding the LB63x, look forward to a huge jump over the Huracan's 640 ps or 631 horsepower. Because the LB63x competes against the 819-horsepower Ferrari 296, it's only natural to assume that Lamborghini could squeeze out 850 hp.

It simply has to, more so if you remember that Ferrari's model packs a 3.0-liter V6 rather than a V8. There is a nonsensical rumor according to which the mystery V8 in the LB63x redlines at 10,000 revolutions per minute, with said rumor also suggesting turbos that kick in at 7,000 revolutions per minute. With the Revuelto free-breathing V12 capped at 9,500 rpm, the hearsay shouldn't be taken with a grain of salt, but completely dismissed.

Through January 2024, the Italian automaker produced no fewer than 25,000 units of the Huracan. It remains to be seen if the LB63x will exceed this figure, which obviously depends on how long the LB63x will be produced. Lamborghini delivered more than 10,000 vehicles last year, of which the Huracan accounted for 3,962 units.

Lamborghini's proverbial gold egg-laying goose is the Urus, which sold 6,087 examples in 2023. Both the Urus S and Urus Performante will be discontinued for the Urus PHEV, which features a charging port door on the left rear quarter panel.

The burbly exhaust note indicates a cross-plane crankshaft for the Volkswagen Group's 4.0-liter V8. Although it doesn't rev as high as a flat-plane engine, the cross-plane design has an advantage in the form of higher torque at lower engine speeds.

MLB Evo platform brother Porsche Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid belts out 729 horsepower, putting it just below the 738-horsepower BMW XM Label. Knowing the Raging Bull of Sant'Agata Bolognese, the Urus PHEV may improve on its German sibling with 10 additional horsepower at the very least.
