Back in May, Cadillac surprised us with a new model called the CT4, at the same time showing a disappointing V-series version. Compared to the ATS-V it replaced, the sedan was seriously down on power and didn't seem like a match for the M340i, let alone the M3.
But even hotter versions of both the CT4-V and the larger CT5-V were teased at the Belle Isle Grand Prix, and today, we're going to show you spyshots of the supposedly high-performance model. While it doesn't have a name, the media are calling it the CT4-V Plus, which frankly makes it sound like a Chinese phone.
The spyshots were taken at General Motors' Milford Proving Grounds near Detroit. Obviously, it's wearing full camouflage, but underneath that, we don't expect to see any major cosmetic changes. Perhaps the most amusing feature here is the propeller sticking out the front on a long shaft. You don't see that everyday!
Underneath the camouflage, we can just make out some deeper side air intakes, a taller hood bump and a general dialing up of the aggression. However, the back is missing its trunk lid spoiler.
Perhaps more important than the look of the car is the engine. Its predecessor was a fire-breathing monster with 464-horsepower, which at the time of its launch was more than the BMW M3. But the CT4-V only came with a 2.7-liter inline-4, with a twin-scroll turbocharger helping it produce 320-hp and 369 pound-feet of torque. No manual; just a 10-speed automatic.
With those kinds of numbers, the V model can barely compete with Acuras and Infinitis. But the CT4-V Plus is rumored to bring a 3-liter twin-turbo to the table, packing 400-hp and available with an AWD system. Meanwhile, the bigger CT5-V Plus is supposed to get the new twin-turbo 4.2-liter V8.
