Mazda is currently trimming the bushes around its model lineup in America, discontinuing the MX-30 e-Skyactiv R-EV here, updating the 2024 Mazda CX-50 with only tiny improvements there, and so on.
But, of course, there are folks who think on a larger scale, and when they see the automaker doesn't budge, they love to take matters into their hands. Or rather, at the tip of their CGI brushes, as is the case with the imaginative realm of digital car content creators.

And although it's one of the smallest two-seat roadsters in the world, there isn't anything 'larger' in Mazda's family than its iconic MX-5 Miata roadster, right? Born in 1989 under the well-known 'Jinba ittai' design philosophy, this front mid-engine RWD model that was light and fun to drive is credited with saving the open-top segment from a slow death.

Well, fast forward more than three decades later, and the sector is again under duress, so perhaps another new MX-5 generation could arrive just in time to perform yet another miracle rescue. After all, the current ND iteration has been around since 2015 and is starting to grow significantly longer in the tooth if you ask its ardent fan base.

On the other hand, Mazda is not in any hurry to come up with a successor, frankly. So, while some folks think that the little Japanese automaker could arrive on the market with a new MX-5 in time for the 2025 model year, others believe it will take them even longer. Well, the Halo oto channel on YT provides fresh automotive info that is corroborated with their virtual designs. And it seems they decided to cover all the basics.

As such, not long ago, they envisioned the potential (NE) fifth generation 2024 or 2025 Mazda MX-5 both as a facelift in case the company wanted another refresh, as well as an all-new iteration if they decided to sever all ties with the current version. But wait, as there is more, much more CGI at stake.

Now, the resident pixel master has decided to provide an unofficial 'sneak peek' at the "incredible" Mazda MX-5 Miata EV that could arrive no sooner than the model year 2028. Remember, that's their hypothetical vision, so do take all this with a healthy dose of salt, as nothing is official from the Japanese manufacturer yet.

Interestingly, the channel's CGI expert does not go for an outrageous transformation to accompany the major powertrain change – instead, the virtual MX-5 Miata EV sports much of the same DNA as its predecessors, plus a couple of derivatives – a street version that looks slightly tamer and a 'racing' specification easily identified by the massive wing perched on top of the trunk. So, what do you think of the proposed ritzy colors?
