Although it's a very small Japanese automaker in the grand scheme of automotive things, Mazda has had a busy start to summer with several (subtle) novelties across the board.
Early in June, they introduced the new Carbon Turbo special editions for the 2024 Mazda3, CX-30, and CX-5 models, all featured with an exclusive Zircon Sand Metallic exterior paint color and good performance across the board thanks to the Skyactiv-G 2.5 Turbo engine mated to a six-speed auto to quickly deliver 250 horsepower (on premium 93 octane fuel) to the wheels.

Quickly enough, they also announced the pricing details and packaging specifications for the 2024 Mazda3 to kick off the 2024 model year lineup announcements – the hatchbacks will arrive at dealerships this summer, while sedans have to wait until fall to boast their newly introduced 10.25-inch infotainment displays with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.

Before the first month of summer ran out, there was also the sad news of Mazda's decision to discontinue the CX-9 crossover SUV – albeit they are not leaving an empty space in its stead but rather making room for the arrival of the first-ever 2024 CX-90. Now, though, it's time to continue with the 2024MY novelties, and second in line is the US-built 2024 Mazda CX-50 compact crossover SUV that "blends the brand's signature on-road driving dynamics with (new) off-road capability."

Until now, the 2023 Mazda CX-50 started with the 2.5 S trim level boasting 187 horsepower and i-Activ AWD starting from $27,750. However, that one is not available anymore, and the Japanese carmaker has moved to a new base of CX-50 operations – the 2024 model year's starting point is the 2.5 S Select kicking off at a higher MSRP of $30,300 (it was $28,950 for 2023MY).

However, remember that Mazda has subtly improved the 2024 CX-50 with a few upgrades – including new dampers and a recalibrated electric power-assist steering (EPAS) system. Moving on, the 2024 model year's lineup consists of eight grades with two powertrain options – the Skyactiv-G 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine makes 256 hp and 320 lb-ft of torque on premium 93 octane gas, enabling the compact CX-50 to boast a towing capacity of up to 3,500 pounds on select packages.

So, as a recap, the CX-50 with the 2.5 S Select package starts at $30,300 for the 2024 model year, while the CX-50 2.5 Turbo starts at $38k. The regular 2.5 S models can also boast the Preferred, Premium, and Premium Plus Packages at $31,650, $34k, and $37,500, respectively. Moving to the 2.5 Turbo versions, after the $38k model, customers can also choose the Meridian ($40,800), Turbo Premium ($41,300), and 2.5 Turbo Premium Plus ($43,300) versions. So, which one is your favorite, and are you thinking of buying one when it becomes available later this year?
