Genesis would have really loved to roll this one off the production line. But they only settled for a concept car built in partnership with Delta4x4, which might never become a production model.
The luxury division of Hyundai, Genesis, has had the GV70 crossover in production since 2020, with the electric variant hitting the market in 2021. The carmaker is already working on a facelift, which should arrive in 2024 as a 2025 model year.
Most customers are probably buying it as a stylish crossover, with no intention whatsoever to leave the tarmac. But what Delta4x4 has done might change their minds. Meet the GV70 Overland Porject. The concept car marks the off-road specialist’s 40th anniversary.
The GV70 has thus become an off-road machinery. It standardly sports a 7-inch (174-millimeter) ground clearance. But a suspension upgrade gives it 2 inches (51 millimeters more).
Delta4x4 came up with extended wheel arches to make room for the set of 18-inch Classic B Rugged black wheels with Continental ATR tires. The setup gives the vehicle a wider stance.
Here are additional PIAA lights mounted on the roof, as well as Baja Style lights showing up in the front grille for more practicality off the tarmac. Delta also designed a roof rack, which can secure vital equipment on adventure drives.
The GV70 Overland Project built by Genesis and Delta4x4 will be on display at the Essen Motor Show in Germany between December 1 and 10 at the Continental booth.
Several updates are expected to show in the cabin as well. But it remains to be seen if the GV70 gets the gigantic 27-inch OLED curved display that is present on board the larger GV80. Its integration would translate into a new dashboard layout.

The internal combustion engine lineup includes the 2.5-liter four-cylinder Smartstream G2.5 T-GDi, the 3.5 V6 petrol engines and the 2.2-liter Smartstream D2.2 CRDi.
The electric lineup offers the dual-motor GV70 Electrified with 429 horsepower (435) or 483 horsepower (490 PS) in boost mode, which stays active for 10 seconds. The EV is equipped with a 77.4-kWh battery pack that makes it able to drive as far as 236 miles (380 kilometers), according to the EPA rating, before it needs to be plugged in again.
