We've known for a few good years that Genesis is prepping the GV90, and, between us, we thought we'd see it sitting in an official environment with no camouflage on its body by now. However, we were wrong because Hyundai's premium car marque still hasn't readied it.
Caught sitting in a car park in Death Valley, likely taking a break from all the hot weather testing, the 2025 Genesis GV90 has entered the scoop blender. The prototype was wrapped in heavy camouflage, with the occasional plastic cladding hiding additional design traits that would've been visible otherwise.
Nonetheless, the resemblance to other Genesis models is evident, especially when looking at the front end that hosts the split lighting units. We can also see a large grille with a closed-off design, a generous lower central air intake with a large sensor in the middle, vertical air curtains to the sides, and a slightly arched roofline. The five-spoke wheels were also visible, and so were the quad taillights.
Don't mind that huge hump, as it is there to hide some of the design traits of the upcoming Genesis GV90. Moreover, you should also ignore the faux exhaust tips, as this is a battery-electric vehicle. Chances are it was based on the E-GMP platform, which would make it mechanically related to the GV60, Hyundai Ioniq 5, Ioniq 6, Ioniq 7, Kia EV6, and EV9. Therefore, it is probably logical to assume that it will pack familiar firepower.
Details surrounding the powertrains of the GV90 are inexistent, but since it is believed to share many components with the Kia EV9, it is also possible that it will get the same dual-motor setup, kicking out 379 horsepower and 516 pound-feet (699 Nm) of torque. If that turns out to be the case, then it might also adopt the same battery pack with a 99.8 kWh capacity. The EV9 has a total driving range of around 270 miles (435 km), so expect the GV90 to offer similar autonomy on a full charge.
Mind you, these are all speculations, as Genesis hasn't released any technical details about the GV90, and they probably won't, not until the vehicle is ready for its big global debut. Speaking of which, it has been reported that it could be due sometime next year, so it will probably be a 2025 model by the time it gets its US visa.
