Genesis GV80 Coupe Attacks the Nurburgring, Guns for the Audi Q8 and BMW X6

Previewed by a concept in April and spied in prototype form a few days ago, the Genesis GV80 Coupe has now returned to the limelight courtesy of a video shared online by CarSpyMedia. One could argue that it looks virtually the same as the tester we showed you earlier this week, and they wouldn't be wrong. However, this is a dynamic take on the model, which shows it in action at the Nurburgring and driving on the roads nearby the famous German racetrack.

From a design perspective, it looks very similar to the study that previewed it, and that's good news for the brand's fans, as it is quite rare for a production model to resemble the concept. It features split lighting units at both ends in a move that ties it to other Genesis vehicles, sports the crest grille, and has a sloping roofline. And it is the latter part and the size that will help it take a swing at the rivals mentioned in the intro. Compared to the regular GV80, the Coupe will have less legroom for backseat passengers and a smaller cargo area, but that's the price to pay for the sporty profile defined by the arched roofline.

Some differences over the study are the diffuser that looks a bit cleaner here, incorporating four exhaust tips, and the more generous ground clearance. We don't think it will have seating for four inside, as chances are the concept's individual rear seats were replaced by a bench that will have room for three. The rest of the interior is expected to be virtually identical to that of its more practical sibling, namely the normal GV80, but we believe Hyundai's premium car brand will at least give it some special features to separate it, and the exclusive trim and upholstery could be on the list.

Power will probably be supplied by the 3.5-liter V6 turbo, which is good for 375 hp on the GV80, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Later, the GV80 Coupe might also get the 2.5-liter four-banger making 300 hp. Europeans will allegedly get the 268-horsepower 3.0-liter straight-six diesel, too, as low-revving mills are still popular overseas. The unveiling could take place in the coming months, and we think the GV80 Coupe will arrive at dealers nationwide as a 2024 model.
