There is something about Australian tiny homes that instantly draws you in. Designed for enhanced freedom and a deeper connection with the outdoors, most micro dwellings coming from Australian designers are modern, beautifully simple yet stylish, and filled with sunlight thanks to the extensive use of glazing.
Queensland-based builder Freestyle Tiny Homes used this precise design recipe to create the Freedom tiny house on wheels, a model that successfully blends a passion for the surrounding nature with high-quality design. This stunning, airy tiny home boasts a unique single-floor layout that was designed to allow owners to do exactly what its name promises: find freedom in small living.

Freestyle Tiny Homes only has a few models in its portfolio, but they stand out through their ingenious floorplans, clever small space storage ideas, and beautiful finishes. This company's dwellings are built for permanent or long-term living with quality materials, and they look nothing like traditional cabins. Instead, they combine contemporary aesthetics with rustic elements for a warm and inviting atmosphere.

Many people imagine that going tiny means living in a single-room structure with amenities that barely meet your basic needs. The truth is tiny homes have evolved considerably, and Freestyle's clever layouts prove that you can still have various delineated spaces within a smaller footprint. Moreover, their homes also allow you to lead a more intentional and sustainable lifestyle in an abode that still is a reflection of your personality.

Built on a double-axle trailer, Freedom measures 8 meters (26.2 feet) in length and 2.7 meters (8.9 feet) in width and features an open-plan kitchen and living area, a generously sized bathroom, and a separate ground-floor bedroom. One of the highlights of this floor plan is the 8.9-foot by 4-foot (2.7m by 1.2m) front deck that is included as a standard feature. It is the perfect spot to sit and take in the surrounding views, linger in thought, watch the birds, and truly feel recharged by nature.

The designers strategically used panoramic windows and a large sliding glass door to open up the interior as much as possible and allow owners to still feel connected to the outdoors even when they spend time indoors. Coupled with the white walls, minimalist furniture, and high ceilings, the interior feels remarkably spacious. There is space for everything and enough amenities to meet all your needs. You can relax or socialize in the open lounge area, cook delicious meals in the adjacent kitchen, or enjoy some private rest in the separate bedroom.

Besides sparing you the trouble of having to climb up ladders to get into bed at night, this single-floor layout provides full standing height in all areas and ensures easy circulation around the house.

The living room is minimalist but well thought out to provide multifunctionality. An L-shaped built-in sofa occupies the center of the house and creates the perfect nook for residents to seamlessly admire nature's splendors, but it also doubles as a dining area with a table attached to one of the benches. The sofa also has integrated storage for stowing away personal belongings.

The compact galley-style kitchen space is well accoutered with custom-made cabinetry and modern appliances ranging from a four-burner gas cooktop with electric oven to a full-size fridge. The cooking area is strategically located in front of a large sliding window to keep the connection with the outdoors undisturbed, and there is also a tall cabinet that can be used as a pantry.

Though not completely separated from the rest of the house through a full door, the bedroom provides a sense of privacy thanks to a dividing wall. It is spacious enough to fit a queen-size bed on a lift-up bed frame with plenty of open shelves around it. Two oversized windows make this room incredibly luminous, and the fact that you can walk around the bed is definitely a plus.

The generous bathroom inside Freedom is another highlight of this model. Besides the usual toilet, a glass-enclosed corner shower stall, and a vanity sink, this bathroom also includes a tall cabinet for extra storage space, a backlit mirror, and a washing machine neatly tucked under the counter.

The exterior of this tiny house is modern yet unpretentious, clad in a combination of timber and metal siding, complemented by a shed-style roof that increases ceiling height for a more spacious feel inside. It boasts two separate entrances, a large glass door leading into the common living area and a secondary door that gives residents direct access from the front deck to the bathroom.

There is also an outdoor shower, which comes particularly in handy for those who spend long hours outdoors and want to wash away the dirt and dust before going into the house.

With its beautiful kitchen, open lounge, walk-around bed, and full-size bathroom, the Freedom tiny house makes living small feel a whole lot bigger. This charming micro-dwelling is available for AUS $95,000 (US$62,000), and many of its features, from the cabinets' color and configuration to the cushions’ fabric, can be customized. Moreover, this model can be optioned with off-grid features for those who plan to live away from the city.
