Developed for the F-Series Super Duty, E-Series, and medium-duty trucks, Ford's Godzilla V8 is more than meets the eye. Thanks to a cast-iron block and a forged-steel crankshaft, the 7.3-liter leviathan is capable of hair-raising performance without taking the heads off.
Coming courtesy of Johan Rauchfuss, the following video shows us a Godzilla crate engine on the Merkel Racing Engines dyno with a pair of 7875 VS Racing turbos, an OBR Control Systems controller, as well as a larger throttle body. The setup also includes a pair of intercoolers along with eight 1,000-cc injectors that force more fuel into the combustion chambers.

At 15 pounds per square inch of boost, the twin-turbo Godzilla posted 1,134 horsepower at 5,800 rpm and 1,037 pound-feet (1,406 Nm) of torque at 5,400 rpm. It’s hard to tell if the engine can take more without stronger rods or pistons, but then again, it’s hugely impressive for the factory valvetrain.

Available from $8,150 as a crate engine, the 7.3-liter Godzilla is rocking 430 horsepower at 5,500 rpm and 475 pound-feet (644 Nm) of torque at 4,000 rpm from the factory. The big-block V8 is capable of dipping into the 10.9s on the quarter-mile run in combination with a Ford Mustang Cobra Jet, but as it happens, the Blue Oval has a few more surprises in the pipeline.

First and foremost, Ford is developing a control pack that allows the Godzilla to be dropped into a Fox-body Mustang, F-100, or an old Bronco. Those who prefer to row their own gears instead of the 10R automatic transmission will be treated to a different control pack, which is designed to run the engine independently from the manual transmission of your liking.

Last but certainly not least, the Ford Motor Company is working on something secret called the Megazilla. We don’t know how the newcomer is going to differ from the 7.3-liter Godzilla, but you can bet your sweet bippy that more suck-squeeze-bang-blow is on the horizon. Oh, and by the way, the Predator V8 in the Shelby GT500 is also getting a crate version next year.
