At the beginning of this week German carmaker Opel revealed that it is committed to going down the electrification path with the announcement of the second fully-electric model in its lineup, the Mokka.
The small crossover that first came to be in 2012 is getting ready for its new generation, which should be ready for market entrance in early 2021, at first exclusively as an electric car, and only later powered by ICE engines as well – a recipe already tried and tested by Opel with the Corsa-e.

When the announcement was first made Opel also released a couple of images of the car, but given the fact we were shown a camouflaged vehicle in camouflaged surroundings, it showed us nothing really.

This time, taking advantage of a visit from Opel brand ambassador and Liverpool FC coach Jürgen Klopp, we are able to see the new Mokka in a more natural background.

The car is still camouflaged, of course, but we now have a more clear image of its dimensions, as unlike the spyshots we already showed you this time the car is surrounded by people, and some of its styling cues, especially the apparent lack of a front grille, befitting an electric car.

Apparently Klopp had the chance of driving the electric Mokka, and he’s extremely happy with it. Then again, he is the company’s brand ambassador…

“Super car! You will have a lot of fun. You can’t imagine it. I've already driven it,” Klopp said.

For now, there is no information on what exactly the electric powertrain of the Mokka is. At the time of this writing, there is only one other electric Opel out there, the Corsa-e. This small city car is powered by a 50 kWh battery that provides a top range of 330 km (205 miles) and an electric motor that develops a maximum output of 136 hp and 260 Nm of torque.
