What we have here is a brand-new 2023 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 in Triple Nickel, with a sticker price of $133,131. Yet, despite having just 25 miles on its high-output supercharged Hemi V8, its reserve wasn’t met recently at auction, which actually makes perfect sense.
Another day, another dealership blatantly refusing to accept the truth, which is that Demon 170-spec Challengers have come down in price considerably and trying to get between $180k and $200k for them is officially a pipe dream.
There is also a backlog of these cars going on the auction block, so there’s little reason to desperately try and outbid everyone or match some crazy reserve set by the seller when you know that some other Demon 170 will make itself available to you probably in a few days’ time.
What’s interesting is that somebody actually made a genuine attempt to purchase this car. At one point, the highest bid was $146,000, before making a big jump to $160,170. Then came the $162k bid, but it was still short of the reserve (however much that was).
In the end, the dealer decided to pull the bid, even though they could have just removed the reserve – this makes us wonder just how much they believe they can actually get for this Demon 170. I think the $180k+ days are over, and the market has spoken.
As things stand right now, selling this exact car for $162,000 seems more than fair, although if this marks the second time this Challenger’s been flipped (and the dealer already paid way over sticker for it), well, that might certainly complicate matters. But now we're just speculating.
Anyway, let’s take a quick look at the spec, because we’ve certainly seen “worse” Demon 170 examples than this one. It’s got a Triple Nickel exterior, which is a decent color for a Challenger (subtle, yet appropriate). It’s certainly better than Destroyer Grey, I can tell you that for a fact.
Other strong visual cues include the Air-Grabber hood with the satin black graphic and ‘Alcohol Injected’ lettering on the scoop bezel, the satin black roof and rear decklid graphics, the SRT Performance rear spoiler, and the black 18” front and 17” rear wheels, with Mickey Thompson ET Street tires developed specifically for Demon 170-spec Challengers.
Meanwhile, inside is where you’ll find the heated and ventilated seats upholstered in Demonic Red Laguna leather, similarly colored seat belts, carbon fiber trim for the dashboard and center console, a suede headliner, blind spot monitoring, dual-zone climate control, an 18-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, an Alcantara-wrapped steering wheel and the carmaker’s UConnect infotainment system with sat-nav, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
As for the 6.2-liter HEMI V8 engine, it comes with a 3.0-liter supercharger, allowing for 900 horsepower and 810 lb-ft of torque on conventional E10 fuel, or 1,025 horsepower and 945 lb-ft of torque on E85.
