In the land of ‘Last Call’ edition Dodge models, the Challenger SRT Demon 170 stands tall as the carmaker’s most extreme quarter-mile beast ever. This thing will put down 1,025 horsepower on E85, before running high-8s at the drag strip.
However, as amazing as this car is, people have been paying way over MSRP for it for a good while now, and the market has finally shifted to say, “enough is enough.”
Looking back, I think this all started with a bunch of those Redeye and Super Stock variants, with sellers being taken by surprise by so-called “low-ball” offers. The thing is, those offers weren’t unrealistically low, and would rather reflect the beginning of a price bubble bursting. Afterwards, we’ve started seeing a whole bunch of top-spec Demon 170 models with their reserve not being met at auction.
Since the Demon 170 is more of a specialty item, it makes sense that it would be more vulnerable to depreciation. You can still sell yours today for over MSRP, by the way, just don’t expect to walk away with $100,000 in profits. If you’re $50,000 in the clear, be super happy, although you might even find $50k to be a stretch right now.
This Sublime Green Challenger SRT Demon 170 is model number 2,586 of 3,300 units built for the 2023 model year, and it was recently pulled from an auction because the seller flat out refused to let it go for $157,500, which would have represented $35,000 over MSRP.
As far as I’m concerned, that would have been a solid profit with how things are looking today. Getting over $160k for this car is going to be rather tough, especially since it’s got 203 miles on the clock – don't get me wrong, it’s barely driven and still brand-new, but it doesn’t have the appeal of a Demon 170 with delivery miles.
Aside from the Sublime Green exterior, other highlights include the ‘Alcohol Injected’ lettering on the hood scoop bezel, the satin black roof, hood and rear decklid, SRT Performance rear spoiler with integrated rearview camera, plus a set of black 18” front and 17” rear alloy wheels featuring Mickey Thompson rubber and four-piston Brembo brakes.
Meanwhile, inside is where you’ll find the Alcantara-wrapped steering wheel, a plaque that identifies this as Demon 170 #2,586, heated and ventilated seats (with black Alcantara and Laguna leather upholstery), carbon fiber accents, a rear seat delete, remote start, dual-zone climate control, and a Harman Kardon sound system.
As for the engine, you know what it is – a 6.2-liter high-output Hemi V8 that’s been fitted with a 3.0-liter supercharger, among other components. You get 900 horsepower and 810 lb-ft of torque on conventional E10 fuel, and a total of 1,025 horsepower and 945 lb-ft of torque on E85.
