Rustic tiny homes hold a certain appeal for those who want to experience the beauty of country life. With tiny mobile living transitioning from novelty to commonplace over the last few years, it is now possible to take your home with you in the middle of nature and live surrounded by nothing but picturesque views without compromising on daily comforts.
With a harmonious combination of old-world charm and modern features, the Damselfly tiny house on wheels perfectly fits the definition of a modern rustic abode that exudes coziness and warmth. This aesthetically striking tiny dwelling is designed and built by master craftsman Abel Zyl at Zyl Vardos, a tiny house builder located in Olympia, Washington, known throughout the world for crafting beautiful structures with stunning curved rooflines, handmade windows and doors, and bespoke interiors.

Just like the graceful insect it is named after, the Damselfly tiny house would feel right at home in the middle of nature, near a pond or lake with the backdrop of green hills or a forest around it. It measures just 24 feet (7.3 meters) long and 10 feet (3 meters) wide for a total of 240 sq ft (22.3 sq m) of living space, and thanks to the clever, open-plan layout and high ceilings, it boasts a bright and spacious interior.

Designed with the utmost craftsmanship, the Damselfly offers not just a place to eat, sleep, and maybe work, but a space with all the conveniences and functionality you need. The builder puts a great deal of thought into every aspect of the homes they offer to ensure both visual appeal and optimal functionality. Inside this particular model, you will find a small living area, a beautiful kitchen, a main-floor bedroom, a sleeping loft, and a bathroom, making up a great living space for two people. Natural textures, earthy elements, and soothing neutral tones make you feel right at home the minute you walk in.

But before talking about the interior, let's take a look at the exterior of Damselfly, which is all clad in cedar and comes with sculpted trim and rafters. The Onduvilla-tiled roof, several curvy windows, and two Solar Tube skylights make it stand out from the crowd. Moreover, almost all of the major elements of this tiny house, including the windows, doors, roofing, cabinetry, and furnishings, are hand-built, a feat not many other builders can brag about. The design elements that stand out the most in the Damselfly model are the offset roofline, a large window box in the kitchen, and the handcrafted entry door with an inlay and round window.

In true minimalist fashion, the interior mixes simplicity with style, using a studio layout for the main floor. Those who prefer ample spaces with clear compartmentalization better look away, as this home is not for them. A small sleeping area on the ground floor is open to the adjacent living room and kitchen, while a three-quarter bathroom lies at the back of the home.

The common area includes just a small sofa, but it seems enough as it blends with the kitchen, which comes with custom cabinetry, natural slate countertops edged in metal, and a two-door pantry. Functionality is provided by a two-burner induction stove, a large fridge/freezer, and a twin-basin copper sink. The grandly arched kitchen window, coupled with a myriad of smaller windows throughout, keeps the interior well-lit and airy.

The bathroom in this whimsical home on wheels is hidden behind a Japanese Shoji-style sliding door. It is equipped with all the basics, including a copper sink, a vanity unit with tile countertop, a one-piece fiberglass shower, and a standard flushing toilet (a composting toilet is available as an option).

There are two sleeping spaces inside Damselfly. The master bedroom is on the ground floor right next to the living area, and since there are no walls separating it from the rest of the house, it offers no privacy. On the bright side, it has full-standing height and a comfortable queen-size bed with integrated storage underneath. An 80" tall wardrobe and corner shelving provide additional storage space for clothes, shoes, and other belongings. There is also a large TV for entertainment, strategically mounted on the wall between the kitchen and the bedroom so that you can watch it from both the living room sofa and the bed.

The lofted twin-size bedroom lying above the bathroom offers additional sleeping space and can be accessed via a built-in storage-integrated staircase with handrail for safety. The space fits a queen-size bed, just like the main bedroom, and has a circular window and one semi-circular window that let natural light penetrate inside. The loft is also the place where you can best see the distinctive swoops and curves on the roof.

All the tiny houses built by Zyl Vardos stand out through unparalleled functional craftsmanship and are highly customizable. As for pricing, they generally range from $80k to $130k. The Damselfly model is available for $128,250 and can be shipped anywhere in the continental USA.
