The Bentley Bentayga Extended Wheelbase showed up at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, pulling up a trailer fully loaded with hey bundles. Powered by renewable fuel, the Bentayga set a new towing record.
The last thing you’d expect to see is a luxury SUV wearing – let's just say, for instance – the Bentley badge – pulling a trailer fully loaded with hey bundles. That's definitely not a task to perform with a luxury car for. But let your imagination run wild, just like the Bentley Bentayga EWB did at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

The Bentayga has become the fastest car with a trailer, a new hillclimb record, albeit unofficial. The car ran uphill using a second-generation renewable fuel, made from agricultural waste straw.

It needed 1 minute and 21 seconds to complete the hill climb towing 2.5 tons of straw in an Ifor Williams trailer, specially designed for the attempt. Just to keep things safe, the run was completed ahead of the start of the festival, during the build phase. That is the reason the record stays unofficial.

All modern Bentley cars participating in the event these days use renewable fuel. That means an 85% perfect reduction in carbon emissions on a well-to-wheel basis.

The amount of straw that the Bentayga EWB pulled at Goodwood would be enough to make 1,100 miles worth of fuel that all the Bentley models can run on without undergoing any changes. The second-gen biofuel complies with the global EN228 standard for gasoline.

The Ifor Williams trailer needed some mods for the run, though. It received a bolted frame that secured the load and increased tire pressure. Bentley previously tested the stability and performance of the car and trailer on three separate occasions. The tests were carried out at the Anglesey Circuit and the MIRA proving ground.

After breaking the record, the Bentayga EWB, trailer, and load are on display in the Cathedral Paddock. A short film that shows how it was done will play during the event.

The Bentayga EWB that put on a show in Sussex is powered by a 4.0-liter 32-valve dual twin-turbocharged V8 that delivers 542 horsepower (550 PS) and 568 lb-ft (770 Nm) of torque to all four corners. The model can hit 62 mph (100 kph) in 4.6 seconds on its way to a top speed of 180 mph (290 kph).

The car also sports the Dynamic Ride electric active roll control technology and All Wheel Steering, with the latter designed to improve maneuverability at low speeds and shorten the vehicle's turning circle.

The EWB version got extra 7 inches (180 millimeters) in wheelbase, as the name indicates, which translates into more space for those seating in the rear.
