Years after it started ascending to the position of the world’s leading auto market, China is still attracting foreign players. Local car companies are still being tapped by European and American carmakers for joint projects, as they all position themselves for what the future will bring.
Audi is among those who have been following this path for years. It has several partnerships there, one of the most important being the one with FAW Group.

Back in October 2020, the Germans announced the creation of a new joint venture which will be tasked with making electric vehicles locally starting in 2024. All will be built on the Premium Platform Electric (PPE) platform Audi has been developing over the past few years with its VW-owned sibling Porsche.

Just a few short months after that, the four-ringed brand announced who will be in charge of the new joint venture. His name is Helmut Stettner, presently holding the position of plant manager at the Audi facility in Neckarsulm. Stettner will take over his new role on May 1, and he’ll be leading a team comprising four other Audi and FAW managers.

“The new company plays a key role in the implementation of our electrification strategy for the Chinese market. Today, through making appointments to the leading management functions, we are taking a further important step,” said in a statement Markus Duesmann, CEO of Audi.

“With this team we are extremely well prepared for the challenges and opportunities of the Chinese market, and are looking to the future with optimism.”

Given how there are three more years left until the new joint venture will actually start making cars, there is no mention for now as to what kind of vehicles these will be. The only certainty is that Chinese customers will be getting “several fully electric Audi models.“
