How do you go about delivering the perfect towable, one that is endlessly versatile, self-sufficient but still light, suited for a variety of purposes, and compact enough to store inside the family garage? Some makers would say that such a towable is an impossible dream, but AntiShanty begs to disagree.
AntiShanty is a U.S.-based company working under the tagline "dwell different" and employing modularity as the favorite approach to helping adventurers achieve their perfect RV, be they seasoned overlanders or weekend warriors, into family outings or dirt-biking with their friends.

The latest addition to the lineup is also an excellent example of their belief in modularity as the ideal solution to get that dream RV and also the most lightweight of the lot.

It's called the AntiShanty 4XD and is billed as the ultimate off-road trailer that can be absolutely anything you need it to be, from a toy hauler to a most badass micro-dwelling for a small family. It's ultra-light and very compact, all-weather and safe even in Grizzly country, and endlessly adjustable beyond the choice of the three available trims.

It's distinctively an AntiShanty product, and if you're familiar with this company's products, you already know what that means.

The 4XD is crafted out of aircraft-grade riveted aluminum, starting from a single piece of steel spine that runs from the front to the back, ensuring maximum durability. On top of that, AntiShanty puts a truck bed with a removable and lockable tonneau that creates a cargo box, exterior kitchen lockers on either side, a large lockable front storage box, and a sleeping unit on top.

Depending on trim and whatever else you add inside, the 4XD weighs between 1,000 lbs and 1,500 lbs (454-680 kg), so it can be towed with virtually any vehicle. It rides on BF Goodrich KO2 all-terrain tires sized 29 up to 40 inches and Timbren axle-less independent suspension.

The 4XD is offered in three trims, each further customizable to a certain extent. You get the 4XTrailer, which is more or less an empty shell, the promised truck bed on wheels and nothing much, to which you have to add your own tent; the 4XD Base, which can be ready to roll with minor add-ons; and the 4XD PRO, which is the complete solution, down to the roof-mounted solar panel, inverter, and battery.

The walk-through video available below shows the 4XD PRO, complete with the hard-sided AntiShanty RTD (Rooftop Dwelling unit) that can sleep two adults and a child or a dog. It's the perfect off-road family-friendly micro-dwelling.

Like all other AntiShanty products, the 4XD is made of aluminum panels and insulated. The company takes pride in the fact that their products use no wood or canvas, which renders them ideal for all-year use in all conditions. Also like the other products from the company, the 4XD also aims to be a blank space you can fill with whatever you need for your adventures, regardless of your interests and needs.

For example, the side kitchen boxes can just as well serve as an outdoor kitchen and traditional storage for bigger items like skis or snowboards. There's one such box on either side, with an awning offered as standard in the PRO package, and they feature a removable shelf and space to fit anything from gas cookers to kitchen utensils, USB chargers and outlets, lights, and the battery box.

The truck bed-like section and the storage box on top offer heaps of space for whatever you need to bring along on your adventures. Two additional storage boxes are available in the lockable unit on the tongue. Optional MOLLE panels create even more storage options, with the possibility of securing your items to them during transport.

The RTD is also made of aluminum: three folding panels, fully insulated and with opening windows that double as doors. Every opening panel on the 4XD is lockable, and the same goes for the RTD openings. Inside, you get a space that can turn into a queen-size bed, just perfect for two adults and a small child.

"This exceptional trailer is designed to conquer the toughest terrains while providing you with all the comforts of home," AntiShanty says of the latest addition to the family, the 4XD. "Whether you’re embarking on an off-grid expedition or seeking a weekend getaway, the 4XD is your ticket to unparalleled freedom."

The only condition is that you figure out whatever unparalleled freedom means to you so you can configure your towable to match. The other, even more important condition, is that you budget accordingly. AntiShanty offers options for everything from matching the rims and tires to your towing vehicle to adding a Dometic fridge, but you have to have the cash to pay for it.

Since we're on the topic of cash, the 4XTrailer starts at $14,900, the 4XD Base at $21,900, and the 4XD PRO at $27,900.
