When it was released more than five years ago, the Aston Martin Lagonda Taraf attracted quite a bit of controversy because of its design lines, super-saloon claims, and (above all) hard-to-swallow pricing. Costing around one million dollars, it naturally set the bar quite high indeed.
Some said it delivered, while others reckoned that one was better off shopping for something a little more traditional, like a Rolls-Royce. No matter the case, we know that Aston’s planned manufacturing quota of 200 examples never materialized, making it an interesting find whenever one pops up for sale.
As a matter of fact, British Aston Martin specialist dealer Nicholas Mee & Co. Ltd currently has an example up for grabs. It’s a Lagonda Taraf produced back in 2016 and has remained in like-new condition ever since because it only has 150 km (93 miles) on the odometer.
According to the consigner, this is a very rare opportunity to own a piece of motoring history because the Taraf (“ultimate luxury” in Arabic) is actually Lagonda’s final model to use an ICE powertrain. As you probably know, the company founded back in 1906 will soon make the switch to a zero-emission lifestyle.
Better yet, the Lagonda Taraf’s value might increase over time, as the dealer notes that “likely fewer than 60” were actually produced by Aston Martin. Unfortunately, we can’t give a definitive verdict if the super-saloon has surpassed its initial asking price because Nicholas Mee has it listed as POA (price on application).
On the other hand, we can judge it as an interesting collector’s item, given its specifications. This particular Taraf is a left-hand drive example and features an Onyx Black finish on the outside. Meanwhile, its interior is dressed up in Winter Wheat and Obsidian Black with a Caithness-grade hide used for the upholstery.
As far as technology is concerned, the flexible VH architecture was already a little old at the time of the Lagonda Taraf’s release. Still, that doesn’t mean the sedan wasn’t capable of a maximum speed of 190 mph (over 305 kph) thanks to its 540-hp 5.9-liter V12 engine provided by the Aston Martin parent company.
