According to a recent study that analyzed insurance claims, Subaru, Ram, Tesla, and BMW drivers are among the worst in the United States.
The Japanese automaker Subaru is coming third in this shameful list behind Ram and Tesla drivers, but that's probably not the carmaker's fault. Instead, the company has done everything possible to have the model roster up to date – save for the $45k Solterra EV crossover SUV, everything else is up to snuff for the 2024 model year: Impreza, Legacy, BRZ, Crosstrek, Forester, Outback, and Ascent.
In fact, the brand is diligently preparing to introduce the 2024 WRX TR model this spring along with the next-generation 2025 Forester. Plus, the Wilderness family keeps expanding to make sure that everyone can feel adventurous when driving a Subie. So, what else could happen to make the marque even more enticing?
If we are to believe the imaginative realm of digital car content creators, the next move would be to bring back the hybrid powertrain – the 2024 Crosstrek abandoned the electrified option from the 2023MY, leaving the quirky Solterra as the only zero-emissions option. But, of course, the parallel universes of vehicular CGI don't want to see the Subaru StarDrive Technology and efficiency of a plug-in hybrid vehicle go the way of the dodo.
As such, the good folks over at the Q Cars channel on YouTube aim to daze and amaze the audience with a potential styling of their vision for the Subie Outback Hybrid. The current sixth-generation Outback was introduced in 2019 for the 2020 model year and has already undergone several mid-cycle modifications with new headlights, a fresh grille, and additional black plastic cladding, plus the restyling of the Outback Wilderness version.
Thus, it wouldn't be surprising if the Japanese company moved to present an all-new iteration for the 2025 or 2026 model year, and the channel's resident pixel master also took the opportunity to present the unofficial design with a hybrid powertrain to make it even more enticing. Of course, no one really knows if the brand is bringing to market an all-new Outback to keep the 2025 Forester company, let alone if they intend to reintroduce a hybrid or PHEV powertrain to the range along with it. So, do take all this with a grain of salt!
Interestingly, the Subaru Outback remains a quirky proposition on the US market – and one that's hard to match with a direct competitor or two. SUVs like the Toyota 4Runner, Jeep Wrangler, or Ford Bronco are clearly out of reach, crossover SUVs are slightly less practical, and that leaves us with some premium counterparts like the 2024 Audi A4 allroad quattro ($47k) or the Volvo V60 Cross Country which is even more expensive ($51,045). So, that leaves the $29k Outback in a pretty unique position, right?
