Finally: 2024 Renault 5 E-Tech EV Rolling Out at Geneva Motor Show

The electric supermini (subcompact hatchback) is due next week at the 2024 Geneva Motor Show. Its unveiling will be streamed over the web from 9:30 AM CET (3:30 AM EST) on Monday, February 26, alongside other novelties from the French marque.

Renault didn't say much about it and chose not to release the usual teaser images. However, we know plenty about the upcoming 5 E-Tech courtesy of the numerous scoops and a few leaks, combined with the stats of the eponymous concept shown over two years ago.

The official patent images that made their way to the World Wide Web a couple of months ago have revealed that it will stay true to the show car with the usual toned-down design. Thus, it has a similar face with an upright bumper and an apron-like piece at the low end, trapezoidal headlamps, vertical taillights, and a floating-style roof.

Renault made the front and rear overhangs longer on the production model and gave it traditional door handles, albeit the rear ones were hidden next to the C-pillars. In the patents, the car's wheels were identical to those of the study, but we expect the diamond brand to offer additional options, including sets wrapped in special tires that were designed to improve the range.

The CMF-EV platform should lie beneath the skin. This architecture shares most of its components with the usual CMF-B that underpins the Clio, Captur, Nissan Juke, etc. Rumor has it that it will launch with a single electric motor with a yet-unknown output. Various outlets speak of around 120-150 hp, and it sounds plausible.

Renault 5 E-Tech's family will also include a spinoff from Alpine. The French brand is prepping the A290, which will basically be a hot hatch variant that some believe will pack the same motor as the A290_B Concept from last year. The study had 268 hp (272 ps/200 kW) on tap. A more powerful model with all-wheel drive is expected to join it, alongside perhaps a lesser one with 215 hp (218 ps/160 kW), or that's what the rumor mill speaks of, anyway.

We certainly look forward to seeing the all-new Renault 5 E-Tech in its glory at the 2024 Geneva Motor Show, which will run from February 26 to March 3, especially since it is a nod to the iconic Renault 5 that was made from the '70s until the mid-'90s. The Alpine model should follow it in a few months, and we reckon it will make its way to dealers across the Old Continent at the end of the year or early 2025.
