Closely related to the Mazda3 five-door hatchback, the CX-30 crossover has entered the 2024 model year with a host of new goodies. The list kicks off with a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system featuring cordless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, which is standard in CX-30 2.5 Turbo trims.
Lesser trim levels get an 8.8-inch center display. The 2024 model year also welcomes the 2.5 Carbon Turbo, a special edition that builds on the 2.5 S Carbon Edition with the addition of a turbocharger.
Three other turbocharged grades need to be mentioned, namely the 2.5 Turbo Premium and 2.5 Turbo Premium Plus. Of course, said trim levels are the most expensive CX-30s that money can buy for the 2024 model year. MSRPs range between $32,790 for the Carbon to $36,800 for the Premium Plus (excluding the $1,375 destination freight charge).
What makes the Carbon stand out from its better-equipped siblings? The answer comes in the guise of Zircon Sand, an exterior paint color exclusive to said edition. This fellow also flaunts Terracotta leatherette and black suede upholstery for the seats, which is also a unique combo for the small utility vehicle.
Equipped with an eight-speaker audio system, the CX-30 Carbon Turbo further sweetens the deal with a wireless phone charger. The beating heart of this crossover is the Skyactiv-G 2.5 Turbo, a four-cylinder lump that's fine with 87 octane. However, you'll need the premium stuff to reach its maximum potential. Rated at 227 horsepower and 310 pound-feet (420 Nm) on regular unleaded, the 2.5-liter mill develops 250 horsepower and 320 pound-feet (434 Nm) between 2,000 and 2,500 rpm with 93 octane.
More than adequate for this kind of vehicle, don't you think? Even the naturally-aspirated 2.5er does a great job in such a small package, belting out 191 horsepower and 186 pound-feet (252 Nm) at full chatter. Both the free-breathing engine and turbo version are paired with a six-speed automatic box.
The CX-30 is all-wheel drive by default in the United States of America. Over in Europe, customers are further presented with front-wheel drive, a manual, a turbo diesel, as well as the rather clever Skyactiv-X engine. The latter is rated at 186 ps (184 hp or 137 kW) from a displacement of 2.0 liters compared to 150 ps (148 hp or 110 kW) for the Skyactiv-G 2.0.
Still not available to configure stateside, the 2024 model year CX-30 will carry a starting price of $24,995 for the 2.5 S trim level. Anything but spartan, the 2.5 S flaunts Off-Road Traction Assist, G-Vectoring Control Plus, LED exterior lights (with auto on/off headlights), a black-painted roof spoiler, 16-inch alloys in gray metallic, a matte finish for the radiator grille, climate control, a total of six Mazda Harmonic Acoustics audio speakers, and push button start.
The list continues with a 7.0-inch LCD multi-information display in the instrument cluster, two USB-C slots, remote keyless illuminated entry system, black cloth upholstery, Rear View Monitor, and one-touch automatic up/down power windows. Safety features abound, and 2.5 S customers also get three years of (free) Mazda Connected Services.
