For Lexus, 2023 will go down in history as the year they introduced the third-gen GX. That may not sound like big news, but the all-new iteration promises better everything, and that likely was not hard to achieve considering that it replaces a 14-year-old vehicle.
Unveiled at the beginning of summer in northern hemisphere, it easily stands out next to the old one due to the fresh and boxy looks. And while its predecessor was related to the Toyota 4Runner, the new Lexus GX has fresh underpinnings that tie it mechanically to the J300 Series Toyota Land Cruiser, Toyota Tacoma, and Lexus LX.

We're talking about the TNGA-F platform, which supports multiple powertrains. For now, however, it comes with an electrified four-pot and a larger V6 with a 3.4-liter displacement. The ten-speed automatic is the only transmission available, and as you can assume, four-wheel drive is part of the package for improved off-road prowess, as despite sending premium vibes, it feels at home on arduous tracks, too.

Mind you, those who are into this sort of stuff will want to give it a few upgrades, and a fresh set of tires in a chunkier size, preferably wrapped around smaller wheels, should be on the list. Additionally, they may want to consider a snorkel to improve the wading depth, some suspension modifications, including a lift kit, and perhaps underbody protection. A winch would be a well-deserved upgrade, too, and so would additional lights to turn night into day at the push of a button.

There are several tuners out there that cannot wait to launch all sorts of goodies for the all-new GX. All Lexus has to do in the meantime is kick off the assembly of the SUV, which will come to life at the Tahara factory in Japan. US sales will commence early next year, and pricing will be announced in due course. Nonetheless, we expect it to carry a small premium over its predecessor, which starts at just over $60,000 before destination. If anything, the 2024 GX might have an MSRP of around $65,000-$70,000.

Now, while tuners see it as a future cash cow, the rendering world has already given it different attires. One of the latest CGI takes on it came from kelsonik on Instagram, who imagined it in two versions. Going for the mall cruiser look, the first one has a smaller ground clearance and much bigger wheels, while the second one would allow it to venture farther into the unknown courtesy of the lift kit, smaller wheels, and huge tires wrapped around them.

So, if you had to choose between these two looks for your 2024 Lexus GX, which one would get your seal of approval?
