Coming courtesy of Dr. Müller on Instagram, we can show you how the 2020 Range Rover Evoque looks like hours before the world premiere in London. And as we were expecting from the pre-production mules, Velar design influences are strong.
The second generation of the compact luxury crossover is understood to launch with a choice of six engine options, including a plug-in hybrid. The list kicks off with the P250, continues with the P300, and tops with the P300e that’s understood to combine the 2.0-liter Ingenium turbo four-cylinder engine (200 horsepower) with an electric motor (100 horsepower).
On the turbo diesel front, the Ingenium family of engines will serve the Evoque in D150, D180, and D240 flavors. In regard to the drivetrain, the all-wheel-drive system features Intelligent Driveline Dynamics, which is a control system that takes information such as steering wheel angle, throttle position, yaw rate, and lateral acceleration to optimize torque distribution.
Based on the interior photographs, the Evoque now features a digital instrument cluster and two touchscreen displays on the dashboard and transmission tunnel. The steering wheel with hidden-until-lit switches is similar to the Velar, but the digital rearview mirror is something we weren’t expecting.
Inspired by the Rear Camera Mirror from the Cadillac CT6, this feature along with the digital instrument cluster might be optional extras on lower trim levels of the Evoque. The photo with the dual-pane panoramic sunroof also reveals two mounting points on the back of the front seats. Based on their design, this is where the rear-seat entertainment system’s monitors go if specified from the options list.
Another way the Evoque mirrors the Velar in design is the pop-out mechanism of the door handles, which might be tricky to use in severe winter conditions. As a brief refresher, Land Rover won’t offer a three-door coupe. Alas, the five-door body style and convertible will have to suffice.
