It's been over a year since BMW launched the new X5, a much-needed upgrade for the luxury SUV, which even has competent powerhouses like the M50d. However, we're now waiting to see the X5 M, which was recently filmed near the Nurburgring.
All the big prototypes like to stop at this gas station once their testing empties the fuel tanks. Of course, that also makes ambushing the cars easier and results in detailed footage like this.

As YouTuber CarSpotterQVS walks around the prototype, we get to check out features like the performance brakes and wheels plus glimpses of the interior. This last part doesn't look ready for production, based on previously leaked footage of the X5 M. It's supposed to have an M-specific shifter and a similar steering wheel to the one in the M5.

The new M SUV has been spied so many times that we stopped noticing the exhaust. However, it is a new setup with the tips set further apart than on previous X5 Ms. It doesn't sound mind-blowing, but that's often the case with more modern systems. Even AMG confirmed future models will have fewer things to shout about due to regulations.

The thick camouflage obscures many of the features making this an M car, such as the air intakes or the functional brake vents. But the two-tone kidney grille is a nice touch that we can spot.

Despite expected competition from the GLE 63 and Audi RS Q8, this expensive performance SUV might be more popular than the M5. BMW M hinted that the X3 M and X4 M could become their best sellers, indicating a shift towards SUVs that don't just come from its American customers.

As for power, you should already know what to expect: 600 HP for the "normal" model and 625 HP in X5 M Competition guise. Look for an official debut later this year.
