Czech carmaker Skoda revealed the third generation Octavia sedan earlier this week at their museum in Mlada Boleslav. The car is built on the new VW Group MQB platform and is a marked improvement in size over the previous generation.
Skoda is firmly stuck in its role as the cheapest out of all he VW bands. And of course, we can’t help it but notice that only Audi and VW build actual coupes nowadays. But fans of the Czech mark probably still miss the days of plentiful coupes.
Back in 2002, Skoda revealed the Tudor coupe concept based on the Superb of the time. They never built it, but it got most people dreaming about a modern day sedan-turned-coupe from Skoda.
This interesting little peace of graphic art is an Octavia-based two-door dreamed up by Theophilus Chin and based on actual press photos. It looks very beautiful, though a bit tail-heavy for out test.
We end this story on a realistic but sad note. Skoda’s money is usually better spent on developing new trim pieces or frugal powertrains, not coupes. They’ve have not chopped doors off a car in this fashion and never will. As an example, the Fabia is the only one of four cars built on the same platform that does not have a three-door version.
