The Budweiser Shootout at the Daytona International Speedway marked between 2001 and 2012 the start of the Daytona 500 week. The idea dates (under different names) back to 1979, and calls for racers to go on an all-out sprint to the win. Like many events of its kind, the Budweiser Shootout needed pace cars.
Back in 2007, the Shootout was won by Tony Stewart, his third win at the show. The pace car of choice for that year’s event was the Chevy Corvette we have here: a car kept in pretty much the same condition as it was back then, and which is now selling as part of an online auction.
The ‘Vette still wears the graphics and logos it had on when it was on the track - Victory Red paint, and Budweiser Shootout at Daytona written all over it. It comes with the 3LT Preferred package, and rides on staggered wheels (18-inch front, 19-inch rear).
Inside, there are black leather heated seats, climate control, power windows, cruise control, and a factory stereo with a CD player. That is, all the things the car did not need while out on the Daytona tarmac, keeping racers at bay.
Powering the C6 along is the original 6.0-liter LS2 V8, working together with a rear-mounted six-speed automatic transaxle. The odometer shows there are only 1,500 miles (2,414 km) on the car, making it virtually brand new. There is, however, no info on where or how the limited number of miles were added on the clock.
As said, the car is currently being auctioned off online. At the time of writing there are 3 days left in the process and the tally is at $22,000. Important to note is that the car is offered with a build sheet, a window sticker, owner’s manuals, three key fobs, an accident-free Carfax report, and a clean North Carolina title.
