Subsequent to the official unveiling earlier this year, Volkswagen has expanded the new Tiguan Black Edition lineup with four new powertrains. The added lumps comprise a punchier gasoline unit, two diesels, and a plug-in hybrid assembly.
Joining the 150 ps (148 hp/110 kW) 1.5 TSI is the 2.0 TSI gasoline burner that develops 190 ps (187 hp/140 kW). The 2.0 TDI diesel is also available on the series in two outputs, with 150 and 200 ps (148-197 hp/110-147 kW). All versions bar the entry-level feature the brand’s 4Motion all-wheel drive system, and the entire series gets the seven-speed DSG automatic transmission.
For the new 2.0 TSI variant of the Tiguan Black Edition, Volkswagen is asking at least £42,340 (equal to $53,719), including tax. The two diesel lumps start at £42,930 ($54,467) and £45,275 ($57,443), respectively. These models have gone on sale today, July 4, 2023, and for the 1.4 TSI eHybrid, which brings 245 ps (242 hp/180 kW) to the party, interested parties will have to wait until July 13 to place an order. The plug-in hybrid model also uses the seven-speed DSG, and it kicks off at £42,835 ($54,347).
As you can expect, Volkswagen's 2023 Tiguan Black Edition stands out due to its black exterior accents. These comprise the trim in the front and rear bumpers, side mirror caps, roof rails, and wheels that measure 20 inches in diameter. The color palette includes the Deep Black Pearl, Reflex Silver, and Dolphin Gray, and for an extra £475 ($603), customers can get it in Oryx White Mother-of-Pearl.
Things such as the R-Line exterior gizmos, dusk-sensing headlamps, heated windscreen washer jets, rear privacy windows, exhaust trim, and two-tone horn are standard. The crossover is also equipped with an auto-dimming rearview mirror, black headliner, stainless steel pedals, chrome elements, leatherette inserts, 30-color ambient lighting, leather-wrapped steering wheel and gearshift lever, heated steering wheel, and heated front seats. The Discover Media navigation system is included, and it also comes with the 10.25-inch Digital Cockpit Pro, DAB radio, Bluetooth connectivity, an eight-speaker audio system, and a generous amount of safety gear.
In Volkswagen UK's lineup, the Tiguan Black Edition slots between the R-Line Edition and the range-topping R. The former features sports suspension, 19-inch alloys, keyless access, and a few other things and can be ordered from £36,615 ($46,455). The top-of-the-line R comes with additional gizmos for a recommended retail price of £50,455 ($64,015). The rest of the family starts from £30,855 ($39,147) for the base trim level, which is known as the Life, going up to £36,980 ($46,918) for the Elegance, and £37,455 ($47,521) for the normal R-Line.
The second-gen Tiguan has been around since 2016. It's made at multiple factories around the world, and in our market, it has an MSRP of $26,950. The third generation will debut later this year.
