Nobody really appreciates or loathes all of BMW's current designs – they're so disparate that you can always find something to love or hate in between M2, M3, M4, XM, iX, X2, 7 Series, X7, i7 ideas, right?
Some don't appreciate the Minecraft-like styling of the M2, others have grown accustomed to the 'double-coffin' kidney grilles of the 4 Series, M3, and M4, and a few even think the split-headlight styling of the XM, 7 Series, or i7 and X7 might be cool, at least in a wacky kind of way. At least, there's something for everyone, including more subtle designs like the 3 Series or the all-new 5 Series.

As such, it is no wonder that the rumor mill still loves the Bavarians, and even the imaginative realm of digital car content creators still thinks that snatching the DNA of a sporty BMW is a good thing when trying to revive something iconic. It seems they didn't learn from the experience with 'Supra boys' – that part of the community that completely disavowed Toyota for using the template of the current Z4 roadster for the reintroduction of the beloved Supra (now GR Supra) nameplate.

One such example is Jim, the virtual artist better known as jlord8 on social media, who loves messing around with all things CGI from the automotive world, and BMW's M2 recently caught his Buick attention. He's a big fan of all things GM and Ford as he owns a 1986 Buick Regal T-type plus a 2001 Ford F-150 SVT Lightning, so he's never too far away from a revival idea based on their iconic models of yesteryear.

This time around, though, even the pixel master is not entirely satisfied with his reinvention epiphany for the return of the Buick Regal Grand National, which was part of the second-generation roster from 1978 to 1987 (GN appeared in 1982). Well, he did use a BMW M2 that was overlayed with a single wide radiator grille with vertical slabs, a two-tone gray and grayer shade of paint with red coachline lines both up and down, plus retro-styled '1987' Grand National wheels – which are actually the only part of his design that he actually likes.

As it turns out, though, some of his core fans do appreciate the unofficial design project – at least they like it more than the original BMW M2 upon which it is based! Anyway, even if the design is not necessarily something to write home about, the internals would definitely not disappoint. That's because BMW treated its tiny G87 second-generation M2 with all the inline-six goodies it could spare – including the 3.0-liter S58B30T0 twin-turbocharged mill hooked to a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic transmission churning out up to 453 hp and 406 lb-ft (550 Nm) of torque to the rear wheels.
