The Power Wagon nameplate is a veritable chameleon across the Mopar side of the automotive industry. So, why not another morphing, especially if it's a virtual one and doesn't hurt anyone?
Initially, the Power Wagon began its life back in 1945 (and lived fruitfully until 1980) as a four-wheel drive medium-duty truck produced across many model series by Dodge. The original was a civilian version of Dodge's 3/4-ton WC series of military trucks from the Second World War, and there were three major series during the original run of the nameplate.

In 1981, the name was discontinued in favor of the new Dodge Ram 'Power Ram' nameplate, but in 2005, Dodge Ram ultimately decided to resurrect the Power Wagon moniker for versions of the Dodge Ram 2500 HD. Moving to the Ram Trucks division since 2010, the 2500 Power Wagon has become a staple of the HD lineup and even celebrated its 75th anniversary in 2021 – and it will probably get another shout-out when the time comes to throw the 80th birthday bash.

Well, if you ask some folks – including the ones across the imaginative realm of digital car content creators – it might not be enough to showcase the 'handlebar mustache' grille on yet another special edition package. Instead, Jim, a virtual artist known as jlord8 on social media, loves messing around with all things CGI from the automotive world, and Ram's 2500 caught his attention (again) with the distinct possibility of making the Power Wagon an SUV worthy of fighting for Stellantis with Chevy's 2025 Suburban or the upcoming 2025 GMC Yukon XL.

As a reminder, neither Ford nor Dodge have a proper answer to GM's full-size body-on-frame long-wheelbase SUVs like the Chevy Suburban or GMC Yukon XL (plus the Caddy Escalade ESV) – Ford hasn't brought to the market something to replace the massive Excursion. At the same time, Dodge doesn't have anything larger than the mid-size three-row Durango.

For sure, the pixel master's fans agree that if Ram decided all of a sudden to compete with the Chevy Suburban and GMC Yukon XL, it would need something special to boot – and this is not the first time he's had the idea of making the Ram 2500 Power Wagon into a spacious and capable full-size body-on-frame SUV. Just like before, the coordinates are simple and appreciated by the fans – the six-lug wheels, the storied history of the Power Wagon nameplate first with Dodge, now with Ram, and the hulking 4x4 SUV allure all combine neatly.

Unfortunately, this is just wishful thinking from an independent artist, and we may never see Ram Trucks build an SUV, let alone a humongous one based on the mighty Ram 2500 Power Wagon heavy-duty pickup truck. Instead, we are waiting on the specialized automaker to finally come up with America-sold responses to the mid-size Toyota Tacoma and compact unibody Ford Maverick pickup trucks.
