The American carmaker is currently without a muscle car heavy hitter because the Mustang Dark Horse 'only' has 500 horsepower, so they're talking about their previous-gen Mustang Super Cobra Jet 1800 electric drag racer as the Holy Grail.
The prototype was at the National Hot Rod Association Winter Nationals, where it nailed a quarter-mile pass in 7.759 seconds at 180.14 mph (298.9 kph), and this is actually the second record of the Mustang Super Cobra Jet. But if this model were in series production, you would also need a powerful truck or SUV to bring it to and from the racetrack, of course.
Well, as it turns out, the imaginative realm of digital car content creators may have unknowingly produced such a vehicle. Just recently, Jim, the virtual artist known as jlord8 on social media, loves messing around with all things CGI from Blue Ovals, so this reborn Excursion is unsurprising – and it would easily haul a rig behind it housing the electric racer, right?
Anyway, even if the two never met – and there are big chances of that happening- a lot of Blue Oval fans would still love to see this unofficially resurrected Ford Excursion full-size SUV out and about. Some think of it as the "iconic gas-eating mom SUV of the century," others muse about its potential wheelbase, and virtually everyone approves of this hypothetical creation that takes the styling of the fifth-generation Ford Super Duty heavy-duty pickup truck as a reference for a massive SUV.
The original class 2 heavy-duty SUV dubbed Ford Excursion was only sold by the Blue Oval company between 2000 and 2005 as the third SUV model derived by the US automaker based on the F-Series pickup trucks after the second-to-fifth generation Ford Bronco and the Ford Expedition and competed against the Chevrolet Suburban and GMC Yukon XL. It was derived from the F-250 Super Duty, and it was both the longest and heaviest SUV that entered production at the time – currently, only the GMC Hummer EV SUV is heavier.
Of course, with this pixel master being very passionate about Ford and GM – he owns a 1986 Buick Regal T-type and a 2001 Ford F-150 SVT Lightning, this is not the first time he dreams of reviving the massive Ford Excursion to potentially please soccer moms and especially the hockey dads out there. Even more so, probably thanks to the styling deployed by Ford on the latest Super Duty, he also feels this is his best CGI revival attempt yet. Meanwhile, some of the fans didn't care about that but rather started a discussion about whether or not the rear wheels should intrude into the rear doors. Sheesh, talk about priorities these days!
