Curiously, although the South Korean automaker presented the facelifted fourth-gen Sorento mid-size crossover SUV during the summer at home with ample revisions, America is left out of the equation, at least for now.
Back in July, the company presented the upgraded and restyled Kia Sorento at home in South Korea, looking like a fresh sibling of the popular Telluride model. It featured a completely redesigned front end with new signature headlights and LED DRLs, plus a thoroughly overhauled interior. Naturally, fans of the model started hunting for it on the street, and American enthusiasts probably thought there was enough time to see the North American version shine brightly during the fall announcements as part of the 2024 model year's roster.

Turns out we're unlucky, though. The South Korean automaker recently announced the Sorento Hybrid and Plug-In Hybrid for the 2024 model year in America, and the changes are only marginal compared to the 2023MY. In fact, the three-row crossover SUV is promoted with minor changes that make it a 99% carryover. Funny enough, the 2024 Sorento Hybrid is even upgraded with a lovely crimson hue in the official photo gallery. However, it turns out the "Runway Red exterior paint has been deleted from the color palette!"

Instead, the customers "now have the option to pair the Gravity Blue paint color with the Navy interior color pack for a unique and stylish look." Yep, even big automakers like Kia talk about two flavors of apples and show us oranges on the outside and grapes on the inside – that Runway Red Sorento Hybrid is paired with a white interior! Anyway, moving on after some additional giggles, the 2024 Kia Sorento Hybrid costs between $36,690 and $42,490 with only one 227-hp turbo hybrid engine option and FWD or AWD paired to a six-speed automatic transmission.

Pretty standard, right? Further up the family ladder, we also find the 2024 Kia Sorento Plug-In Hybrid – which is more of the same. Only this time, we get to find out the same Runway Red delete procedure and mix of Gravity Blue paint color with the Navy interior color pack happens with a white and Navy example shown in the press pack. At least that exterior color is still available in the configurator, right? The 2024 Kia Sorento Plug-In Hybrid is also a 99% carryover while also adding a gray instead of the black headliner of the 2023MY. This model is only available with the top SX-P trim with standard AWD "and a long list of standard Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and the most passenger room and second-row legroom of any three-row PHEV SUV in its class."

The price is $49,990, by the way, and for the money, the powertrain is also upgraded to a 1.6T GDI paired to a more powerful 66.9-kWh (90 hp) electric motor instead of 44 kW (59 hp). The total system output is 261 horsepower, but the 258 lb-ft torque figure is the same for the Sorento Hybrid and PHEV. So, which one Is your favorite – or are you waiting for the refreshed variant for 2025MY?
