Remember that sweet and hot LBX Morizo RR Concept Lexus unveiled at the 2024 Tokyo Auto Show in January? It appears it will spawn a production version.
During a chat with the Australian media during the local presentation of the regular LBX, Lexus' CEO for the local market, John Pappas, was quoted by Drive as saying it is "highly likely" that it hits the assembly line. However, the exec also left the door open for interpretation by adding that the model is "not confirmed."

Mind you, additional confirmation came from Toyota's chairman, Akio Toyoda, who apparently uses the study as his personal ride. The official was filmed last year in the Morizo RR saying, "This is the new LBX. We are selling it from the end of the year [2023]," and adding that "this one [the Morizo RR Concept] will be next year [2024]."

So, what is all the fuss about the Lexus LBX Morizo RR Concept? Well, it is a sporty crossover with the same powertrain as the Toyota GR Yaris. Both models share the same construction and now pack the same 1.6-liter three-banger. It develops 300 horsepower (305 ps/224 kW) at 6,500 rpm and 295 pound-foot (400 Nm) of torque from 3,250 to 4,600 rpm.

As a result, it is just as punchy as the rally-bred supermini hot hatch and benefits from an all-wheel drive system, too, just like its cousin from Toyota. An eight-speed automatic gearbox delivers the thrust to the 19-inch wheels, shod in 235/45 tires. The ventilated discs at both axles provide the stopping power, and it has a MacPherson strut at the front and a double-wishbone layout at the rear.

The Morizo RR is distinguished from the regular LBX by its oily bits and chassis enhancements. It also has new front and rear bumpers, a sporty diffuser, a fresh grille, double tailpipes, some yellow accents, and special badges. Lexus says it is a bit wider and sits closer to the ground than the normal crossover. Inside, it features sports seats, alloy pedals, an ochre-dominating look with a few yellow accents, and a few other bits and bobs.

We expect the chassis upgrades, ventilated discs on all four corners, sporty body kit, bucket seats, and, more importantly, the GR Yaris' punchy three-pot motor to make their way to the production version.

The feisty model is probably due before the end of the year, and we wouldn't hold our breath for a possible introduction in the United States, given that the regular Lexus LBX remains a forbidden fruit in our market. Nevertheless, would you be willing to spend your money on the Lexus Morizo RR (name unconfirmed for production) if they brought it here? Drop a line below and let us know.
