Don’t get me wrong, I love me some Hellcat any day of the week, but this one with its Indigo Blue exterior and dual silver stripes just screams ‘Shelby’, or at least ‘Ford’, generally speaking. It comes off as a bit unoriginal. I’m not a big fan of racing stripes on Hellcats to begin with, but if they absolutely must have them, the color combo should be different.
It’s hard to believe just how much Dodge have stepped up their muscle car game in the past 8 years alone. They went from breaking the Internet with the 707 horsepower Challenger/Charger duo to offering no fewer than 1,025 horsepower in the limited production Challenger Demon 170. That’s a 318-horsepower bump, and so what if you needed E85 fuel (gasoline/ethanol blend) to get there?
Today, your “base-spec” Hellcat will put down 717 horsepower and it’s going to cost you upwards of $74,290, or $80,690 if you go for the Widebody aesthetic. Meanwhile, your two flagship specifications are the Redeye Widebody Jailbreak and the Super Stock, both of which put down 807 horsepower and 707 lb-ft of torque. Straight up monsters.
Now, the reason we’re here is to talk about a specific 2022 Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye Widebody Jailbreak (a name that takes forever to write down), getting auctioned off to the highest bidder with just 17-miles on its supercharged 6.2-liter Hemi V8.
Once you get past the exterior color and stripes combo, your eyes will feast on the HID Air-Catcher headlights, widebody fenders, Redeye badging, the chin spoiler guard, Black Vapor chrome dual exhaust outlets, and the low-gloss black 20-inch Y-spoke wheels with 305/35 Pirelli P Zero All Season rubber at all four corners. This Challenger also comes with adaptive Bilstein dampers plus red-finished six-piston calipers at the front, four-piston ones at the rear.
Inside, highlights include the black Houndstooth cloth upholstery with embroidered SRT logos on the backrests, a rear seat delete (nice), Demonic Red seatbelts, heated and power-adjustable front seats, keyless entry, push-button start, Jailbreak badging, an Alcantara-wrapped steering wheel, Uconnect infotainment system, cruise control and dual-zone automatic climate control. It’s everything you need for good everyday living and driving.
As for performance, you already know what it is. Those 807 horses come courtesy of the Jailbreak package, otherwise a Redeye would have just put down 797 hp. Not that 797 is a small number or anything.
Anyway, the extra muscle also comes with a high-performance engine controller, an After-Run Chiller and an SRT Power Chiller – the latter uses air conditioning refrigerant to cool the air that gets sucked into the intake ports.
This car cost $90,544 last year when it was purchased in Roanoke, Virginia, and with a bit of luck, you might be able to steal it for a little less than that come Saturday.
