This has become so predictable. There can’t possibly be a best-selling model ranking without it. There is always the same vehicle in the lead, no matter if we are dealing with the brand-new models sales or the used car market. It is always the Ford F-150.
The Ford F-150 tops the ranking of the new cars sold in 2023 just as much as it does in the used car market. It has been like this for years, and 2023 was no exception. The pickup truck accounted for 3.3 percent of the 9.2 million used car sales from the last five model years (2018 - 2022), analyzed by iSeeCars. The share of each model was calculated nationally, but also within each metropolitan area and each state.
According to the official figures released by Ford in the first week of the year, there were over 750,000 customers who purchased a brand-new F-Series truck, which is up 15 percent over the previous year, and the trend should go on as far as petrol and diesel are still solutions. Otherwise, the F-150 Lighting is the solution. Sales figures for the EV rose by 55 percent from the previous year.
There is no information on the exact numbers of used F-150s or F-Series examples sold transacted throughout 2023. The F-150 leads both the Most Popular Used Trucks and Most Popular Used Cars Ranking, with a 3.3 percent market share in the first and a 21.9 percent market share in the second, respectively.
The F-Series outsold the Chevrolet Silverado on the new car market by approximately 200,000 trucks, but also in the used car market, where it accounted for 17.7 percent of the used trucks sold in 2023.
The Ram 1500 finished third last year with 14.0 percent, the Toyota Tacoma was fourth with 9.1 percent, while the GMC Sierra 1500 was fifth. None of these trucks shifted positions from last year.
The ranking of the Most Popular Used Cars in America in 2023 is quite similar, with the F-150 in the lead and the Chevy Silverado second, while the Equinox SUV breaks the pickup trucks list. There is the Ram 1500 in fourth place, losing its third place for the first time in recent years.
The shift came as a surprise. Karl Brauer, iSeeCars Executive Analyst, says that it is strange to see the Ram outside the top 3 ranking, since trucks have been so dominant in the US market for so long.
