For a long time, compact homes on wheels were seen as temporary, practical solutions for affordable housing, but things are slowly changing. Many of today's tiny homes are so incredibly well-built and equipped that they make bigger conventional homes blush. This Aussie tiny house proves that your first house can be your dream home, and it won't break the bank.
If contemporary minimalism is your thing, you'll surely be drawn to the Yarrambat's sophisticated yet clean aesthetics. Far from the modest, rustic dwellings that only offer basic amenities, this Australian-designed home on wheels aims to offer the cozy, stylish ambiance of an urban studio with additional functionality.

Size-wise, we're talking about a compact abode with less than eight meters in length (7.8 meters/25.5 feet) and a little over four meters in height (13.1 feet). The space was wisely divided into a main floor area with a central, multi-functional kitchen, a separate bathroom and a spacious lounge, and a loft area with one bedroom.

This layout is ideal for a couple who are searching for their first house or looking to downsize in their later years. Still, the Yarrambat can be even more generous when it comes to accommodation, thanks to its voluminous lounge that can easily fit in a convertible sofa. That would be enough to sleep two more guests or even to add a wider dining area for more than two people.

The Yarrambat's contemporary urban vibe also comes from its ingenious balance between privacy and openness. The loft bedroom, for instance, comes with a solid privacy screen, which is a safety feature that also helps create a more intimate atmosphere by separating this room from the day-to-day activities downstairs. Versatility is a key aspect of tiny home design, and this Aussie creation uses it in the form of multi-function items. The loft's safety wall doubles as a practical bookcase with ample storage.

In the kitchen area, you'll notice an intriguing nook, almost hidden between all the appliances and cabinets. Furnished with a wide-surface bar and a comfy seat, this nook is just as well-suited for home office work as it is for breakfast. The owners can use it as both a breakfast bar (one of the signature features of most Australian tiny homes) and a convenient work desk – it's fitted with two power points and a cable duct cover. Plus, it's placed so that it can benefit from all the natural light inside.

The kitchen's countertop boasts a generous length of 2.4 meters (7.8 feet), matched by massive storage integrated underneath, as well as above. This still leaves plenty of room for full-size appliances, including a fridge, an induction cooktop, and a convection microwave, each with its special place within the kitchen layout.

Even more easy-to-reach storage is available in the custom-built staircase with multiple cabinets. One of the compartments was designed to house a full-size washing machine, which adds functionality without creating clutter and taking up precious floor space.

Yarrambat's lounge area is truly as inviting as it gets. Elegant sliding doors support the indoor/outdoor flow for a feeling of amplified spaciousness with beautiful views. A wall-mounted TV is the final touch for this classic living room setup, with a big, comfy sofa and a coffee table.

It's a great place to take in the views, and it's equipped to be comfortable year-round thanks to the air conditioning system and ceiling fan. Discrete LED lighting across the staircase makes accessing the loft bedroom even easier. You'll discover a tranquil bedroom with a walking platform and sufficient space for a queen-sized mattress. Three windows were strategically added to increase luminosity and ensure proper cross-ventilation.

The bathroom is also surprisingly modern and elegant. It's big enough to include a walk-in shower cabin with a stylish glass door and an extra-larger window. A conventional toilet, a full-height storage cabinet, and a classic vanity are also part of the basic setup.

On the outside, the Australian Yarrambat is just as charming. What makes it stand out is the eye-catching two-tone cladding with a diagonal pattern. It makes this modern tiny home instantly recognizable, and it looks particularly impressive at night, thanks to the clever exterior light system.

Another thing that defines most Australian-built tiny homes is their beefed-up ruggedness. Given the variety and the inherent challenges of the country's natural environment, homes on wheels are designed to be as sturdy and reliable as possible while also ensuring a direct connection to the outdoors.

The Yarrambat was built to meet Cyclonic Standard AS1684-3 (timber framing in cyclonic areas) and is fully insulated from the roof down to the floors. It also meets the criteria for being registered as a tiny house or a caravan.

It's always good to know that the team behind a tiny house project has ample experience in the building industry. Contemporary Tiny Homes brings together registered builders with decades of experience in the industry. On top of that, each of their creations is beautifully styled by the brand's in-house designer to maximize spaciousness. With a home like the Yarrambat, downsizing is not only easy but also fully enjoyable.
