Every kid dreams of owning a 225 horsepower rocket of a Megane RS, or at least I did back in the days of the "Shake It." But when you actually get to drive the car as an adult, you realize that it's not suited to ordinary family life. A few years ago, Ford and Opel had the bright idea of making hot models like the S-Max ST and Zafira OPC.
They never caught on. Mercedes didn't jump at the chance of stuffing the M133 into the B-Class either, suggesting there was no market for it. However, Renault might develop something in between vicious and mundane. The all-new 2017 Scenic is only a few days away from making its full debut felt at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show. It's got a lot of good cards to play, but the best one is still hidden in Renault's hand. What we mean is that the French will probably not offer a GT model straight away.
What's a GT model? Only the best thing since bottled water, as we've learned with the all-new Megane GT. Yes, the engine it uses is the same as that in the Clio RS. However, the car isn't heavier, and more torque is available in the Megane. Also, the twin-clutch gearbox and 4Control all-wheel steering system strike an excellent balance between fun and comfort.
Since all these goodies belong to Renault, there's nothing stopping them from making a Scenic GT. In fact, the GT name is so compelling that it inspires the people who make renderings more than the RS one. Here we have the Scenic GT in all its potential glory, thanks to X-Tomi Design. It features a more aggressive body kit, lowered suspension and bigger wheels. Some of the chrome details and the grille are blacked out while the overall paint color is the same Bleu Iron you see on other Renaults.
Who would even buy such a car? Well, the family man who used to want a Megane RS 225 but now has to worry about kids. The Scenic GT would get much better mileage, handle more nicely than any crossover and still have space to carry an Ikea wardrobe.
