Timeless Scandinavian appeal meets vibrant Kiwi ingenuity inside this dual-loft wooden tiny house that can easily become a small family home or a welcoming vacation rental. The Redwood is meant to take the indoor/outdoor flow concept to the next level through a series of smart features that don't impact mobility.
On the inside, the Redwood looks like a cozy traditional cabin thanks to the abundant woodwork, but with a twist – this is the contemporary version of rustic cabins, where an indoor/outdoor flow becomes the priority. Although private and cozy enough for conventional long-term accommodation, the Redwood opens to its natural surroundings in the most beautiful ways.

The lounge area becomes spectacular due to an apparently simple addition in the form of an oversized, bi-folding window. Unlike a traditional window, this literally eliminates the formal line between the inside and the outside as it fully opens. With a lovely dining corner strategically placed there, it will feel like dining in the open air every time. And that's not all: additional windows on each side will offer stunning views from every angle and flood this entire part of the house with natural light.

The oversized rear window that instantly turns Redwood's lounge into a contemporary, stylish indoor/outdoor relaxation and dining area is accompanied by a three-panel window opposite the kitchen, which bi-folds vertically. Bringing the outdoors in is not the only benefit of this specific type of window; they're also great space-savers since they don't require the extra space for conventional opening and closing.

To top things off, the Redwood tiny comes with a smart exterior deck that literally expands the home's living spaces into the outdoors and invites the owners to connect to nature even more. The main thing that makes this a smart deck is that it's foldable. It's like an instant deck that's ready to use straight away and easy to fold back whenever the house remains unoccupied for a longer time as a safety measure. Apart from this added flexibility, it's also spacious enough for outdoor fun (2.3 x 3.5 meters/7.5 x 11.4 feet).

This type of folding deck is the perfect addition to a tiny house that's designed to be compact and easy to move from one location to the next. The Redwood sits on a 10-meter-long (32.8 feet) and 2.4-meter-wide (7.8 feet) triple-axle trailer. As a two-bedroom home for couples or small families, it boasts 34 square meters (366 square feet) of floorspace, cleverly divided to provide all the creature comforts of a traditional home.

Compared to the sizes of the other models available at Arohanui Tiny Homes, the Redwood is one of the most balanced versions, meaning it's not ultra-compact but not too big either. The only downside might be that loft access is provided by simple ladders, which takes away some of the overall comfort. Still, this solution is often preferred in smaller dwellings because it frees up a lot of space on the ground level. This translates to added functionality and a sense of openness despite restrictive dimensions.

The Redwood looks and feels wonderfully airy and luminous, even though it still exudes the classic warm ambiance of a rustic wooden house. This has a lot to do with the Nordic Pine paneling throughout. Inspired by the highly popular Scandinavian aesthetic, this beautiful paneling adds warmth and coziness while keeping things on the "clean," uncluttered side. The light tones and natural wood colors are a perfect complement to the open-space layout and minimalist décor.

In the kitchen area, the Redwood reveals another smart amenity. High up, you'll notice a spacious storage area made entirely of wood. This flexible overhead storage could be used to add kitchen cupboards, but it would be a great addition to an Airbnb setup. Guests could use this open compartment to store their luggage quickly and easily and to keep it neatly stored throughout their vacation. For the Airbnb owners, this could mean a faster turnaround time. Either way, it's always good to have extra storage in a tiny house, especially in a way that uses the available space efficiently.

The Redwood's lounge is also particularly generous in size. It's rare to have a tiny house living room that can house both a large sofa and a dining area effortlessly. In this case, it was possible due to the absence of bulky staircases that typically take up a lot of space. The kitchen was designed to incorporate all the appliances required for comfy long-term living, including a dishwasher and a range hood. The bathroom also has enough room for a washing machine, even though it features a large (900 x 900 mm) shower.

This Kiwi tiny house builder incorporates self-sufficient features in each home. The Redwood comes with dedicated storage tanks for fresh, grey, and black water and features a smart, electric toilet instead of a conventional one. Off-grid capabilities can also be added to make this tiny house fully independent.
As for pricing, the Redwood is normally available for NZD 155,000 ($92,750) but is currently on sale for NZD 135,000 ($80,770) with all appliances included.
