Tesla has just hit a major milestone on the European market. The EV maker sold a million cars there since the first Tesla-badged car landed in Europe. And that was even before the refreshed Model 3 gained traction.
Tesla launched in Europe back in 2009 when they sent the first generation of the Tesla Roadster to the Old Continent. The Tesla Model S sedan arrived in 2012, while 2015 brought the Tesla Model X crossover to the European customers. The Tesla Model 3 set wheels on European soil in 2016.

Four years later, the Model Y followed. It took them 14 years from the first Roadster delivered in Europe to car number one million. Tesla has recently announced that the company sold 5 million cars worldwide. It is expected that the upcoming budget subcompact car wearing the Tesla badge, specifically designed for Europe, is going to boost sales over there. The model will enter production at the Giga Berlin in Germany. So it probably won’t take long before we hear about a two-million milestone.

According to a report from industry analyst Jato Dynamics, cars from the Tesla S3XY lineup (Model S, Model 3, Model X, and Model Y) were selected by 232,066 customers in 2022. The bestseller last year was the Model Y, chosen by 137,052 buyers. Far behind it was the Model 3, with 91,475 units sold.

But Tesla has come up with the refreshed Model 3, a move that will give the compact sedan a chance to reduce the gap that sits right now between it and the Model Y. The 2024 Tesla Model 3 is already available for order in several European states, and deliveries are set to start there next year in January.

In the UK, the new Model 3 starts at 39,990 pounds (the equivalent of $48,592). That is 3,000 pounds ($3,645) cheaper than the most affordable version of the pre-facelift version, even despite the massive 8,000-pound ($9,720) price cut in the past few months.

For that much money, customers will be driving home the entry-level Model 3 vairant. That is a single-motor, rear-wheel drive Model 3 with identical output compared to the previous version. That would be 245 horsepower for a run from 0 to 62 mph (0 to 100 kph) in 6.1 seconds.

This version can drive as far as 344 miles (554 kilometers) on a single charge, which is 39 miles (63 kilometers) more than the outgoing model could do. Charging speed remained the same at 170 kW.

Upper in the lineup, there is the dual-motor Long Range for 49,990 pounds ($60,643), bringing along a range of 421 miles (678 kilometers) and charging speed of 250 kW.

For the moment, the Tesla Model 3 that is marketed in the European states is built at the Giga Shanghai and shipped all the way from China. Meanwhile, the Model Y is built in Germany, while the Model S and the Model X get to Europe from the Fremont factory in California. We are yet to see if the Tesla Cybertruck will make it to Europe.
