We've recently learned that Tesla has sent the Cybertruck to New Zealand for the winter testing season. It appears it will not be alone, as the entire Tesla lineup, including the refreshed Model 3, is testing in the snow.
Tesla is working diligently to push two new models out the door, the Cybertruck and the refreshed Model 3. The electric pickup should start volume production in the coming months at Giga Texas, but not before the first winter testing results are processed. The Cybertruck was spotted last month while it was unloaded from a plane at Queenstown airport in New Zealand. The area is home to the Southern Hemisphere Proving Grounds (SHPG), a state-of-the-art testing facility used by carmakers and tire producers all over the world for winter tests in June-September.

A new report from New Zealand shows that a second Cybertruck arrived at the testing facility in Cardrona. Unlike the first one, which was wrapped in camouflage vinyl, the second pickup is naked. According to eyewitnesses, it has the 512 number written with blue tape on the side. Unfortunately, Tesla enthusiasts could not provide videos or pictures due to increased security in the SHPG area. The very few images that were caught reveal an interesting detail, though.

Like last year, Tesla flew the whole S3XY family to New Zealand for winter fun in the snow. At least nine Teslas can be seen in the picture shared by the CybertruckNZ Twitter account. Even though the Cybertruck doesn't appear to be in the picture, look closely, and you'll spot it tucked behind the shed. There's something else blocking the view of the Cybertruck, and that is arguably the most exciting thing in the picture.

Indeed, two camouflaged Tesla Model 3 prototypes are on the right side of the picture. This is the first time we've learned that Project Highland electric sedan is also winter-tested. Judging by the number of cars parked at the facility, I'd say a lot of folks will have a lot of fun in the coming days. I'm sure Tesla will release a new "S3XY Winter Testing in New Zealand" video in about six months. By then, both the Cybertruck and the refreshed Model 3 will be on the roads, and secrecy will not make sense anymore.

Tesla is expected to start volume production of the refreshed Model 3 in the coming months, with a formal launch expected to happen by the end of the year. Project Highland has been rumored to be the most extensive model overhaul in Tesla's history. Previously, the Model S and Model X have been updated, but the modifications were limited to cosmetic touches and technological upgrades. With the refreshed Model 3, Tesla will introduce a new design, manufacturing, and many new features.

The Cybertruck is also expected to make its commercial debut during this quarter, with a possible delivery event planned for September. The electric pickup is already in its final development phase, with pre-production prototypes roaming Bay Area. The two launches will crown an already brilliant sales result in the second quarter, as announced on Sunday.
