Tesla is already underway with Cybertruck trial production, as more electric pickups were spotted in the wild. In a recent scoop, two Cybertruck that appear to be production-ready were hauled on a trailer to an unknown location. In another find, two camouflaged Cybertrucks were caught in the same picture in the Bay Area.
The Tesla community couldn't be more excited as Cybertruck sightings have become common, especially in California. Although the Cybertruck will start production at Giga Texas soon, many prototypes and pre-production vehicles have been spotted in the Bay Area, where Tesla has its engineering headquarters. More Cybertruck sightings mean Tesla accelerated the Cybertruck program, and the series production start might be near.

Mid-June, the internet got puzzled to see the first Tesla Cybertruck covered in camouflage, something unusual for the electric pickup. The Cybertruck has always appeared in public with no disguise, so the camo caused quite a stir. Moments later, another prototype with the same camo exited a drive-thru In-N-Out restaurant.

Tesla fans concluded that this was a beta-production model, not a prototype. Elon Musk confirmed that the drive-through visit has already become a tradition at the end of the development phase. This was another proof that the Cybertruck was ready for the next stage of its career, the trial production.

Tesla may have already started limited production, as more Cybertrucks have been spotted on Thursday. Camouflaged pickups are already mundane, but having two in the same picture is unusual. Even more unusual was seeing two uncamouflaged Cybertrucks on a trailer on a highway in California, heading to an unknown location. The electric trucks on the trailer appear to be production models. One had the vault cover closed, a welcome variation to previous sightings.

Although I don't know where they were heading, I can assume they will not have a good fate. Tesla uses the first production models for structural and other "destructive" tests. These two Cybertrucks could be destined for crash tests. Although the Cybertruck's stainless steel exoskeleton is probably stiffer than other vehicle bodies, it should not survive a crash. Tesla surely designed the Cybertruck with proper crumple zones to enhance occupant protection in the case of a collision.

There's another intriguing detail that eagle-eyed fans noticed. The latest Tesla Cybertruck still doesn't feature a light bar at the rear. When the first pre-production prototypes surfaced, people asked Elon Musk about this feature, and Tesla's CEO promised that the production model would have it. The latest sightings suggest that this might not be the case after all. Still, being such a minor detail, I imagine it shouldn't be difficult for Tesla to add it in production.

The latest information suggests that Tesla will start Cybertruck series production around August, and the first reservation holders will get their pickups in September. Tesla plans a special delivery event, as it did with the Semi or the Model Y built at Giga Berlin. Still, I don't expect the production to ramp up fast, especially as Tesla is fighting a battery cell shortage that also affects the Semi production.
