Tesla started deliveries of the Cybertruck on November 30, with a special edition "Foundation Series" model. People wondered how many Foundation Series Cybertrucks would be offered and what would happen with your reservation if you refused to buy one when invited. A Tesla Support representative offered a semi-official answer to these questions.
Two years later than previously announced, the Tesla Cybertruck deliveries debuted on November 30 with the customary Delivery Day event at Giga Texas. Previous rumors indicated that Tesla would only deliver about a dozen Cybertrucks during the event, and this was indeed the case. However, it wasn't the whole story. After the event ended, Tesla continued deliveries of the Cybertruck to select customers, including celebrities and employees.

During the event, Tesla revealed key Cybertruck details, including its prices, which turned out higher than expected. That didn't matter, though, because the first Cybertruck units delivered to customers were the so-called "Foundation Series," which are even pricier. These are "all-you-can-eat" builds, including everything in the Cybertruck's configurator, plus special accessories and charging equipment. The icing on the cake was the laser-etched Foundation Series badging.

Because of all the extras, Tesla added a $20,000 "Foundation Series" fee to the price. Even so, the Foundation Series Cybertruck is good value, considering the FSD Capability alone costs $12,000. That is if you can afford to pay $99,990 for the AWD variant or $129,990 for the Cyberbeast.

Not everyone does, and many don't see the point of paying that much. However, as Tesla started polling reservation holders for speedy delivery, people started wondering what would happen to their reservations if they declined to go through with the purchase once invited.

Many feared that they would lose their place on the wait list if they didn't configure the Cybertruck when invited. Being an early (possible "day one") reservation holder and getting to the back of the queue, two million places below, was a terrifying perspective. It might take years until Tesla works through the backlogs or enough of those on the list give up their spots.

Thankfully, one Tesla Support representative clarified this, and the situation is not as dreadful as imagined. According to a post on Reddit, you'll still keep your place in line when you decline a Foundation Series invite. However, you won't receive another invite to configure a non-Foundation Series Cybertruck until the limited series trucks have been sold out.

That brings another question a lot of people asked: How many Foundation Series Cybertruck does Tesla have to offer? That is a little tricky, as it appears many people are willing to pay extra for a Cybertruck. It makes sense for Tesla to sell as many as it can until nobody wants to pay the $20,000 surcharge. This is easy, considering that the laser-etched badging is the sole hard differentiator. You can place it on any number of trucks, add the accessories, and boom, a new Foundation Series is born.

However, it doesn't work that way. The Tesla Support rep confirmed that there will be about 20,000 Foundation Series Cybertruck offered to early reservation holders. How long it will take Tesla to sell them all is anyone's guess, but they should run out in the first half of next year if the production ramp at Giga Texas goes according to plan.
