Common sense (and physics) says that you can't have it all, especially if you want all great and sometimes opposing features within the same package. That makes the latest Tecnomar achievement even more impressive – and we're not even taking its good looks into consideration right now.
Tecnomar and its parent company The Italian Sea Group (TISG) are in the business of speed, with more than a dash of exclusivity, plenty of focus on quality, and distinctive good looks. If neither name rings a bell because you're not a yacht guy or gal, know that Tecnomar is also the builder behind the "Lamborghini of the sea," a literal Lamborghini yacht.
The Tecnomar Lamborghini 63, of which only 63 units will ever be produced, is one of the most impressive collaborations between the naval and auto industries, styled to resemble a Lamborghini supercar, powered by Lamborghini engines, and delivering the kind of performance and onboard experience you'd expect from any vehicle with the Raging Bull logo on it.
Of course, Tecnomar does more than just Lambos of the sea, and reducing its impressive portfolio to just this one model would be doing it a severe injustice. The latest design from the famous yard is the Cat 133 FT – it doesn't have the most striking or even memorable name for now, but its design is a good example of a "have it all" type of approach.
The Cat 133 FT was among the three projects announced by TISG earlier this year but had been introduced at the Monaco Yacht Show in 2023. Tecnomar is now revealing a bit more details regarding its specs. It's not just a concept but will be going into production, and it's based on the bigger but equally gorgeous This Is It custom cat revealed to the public in the fall of 2023.
A catamaran is a dual-hull watercraft that brings significant benefits over a single-hull yacht, such as higher speeds, more stability and less rolling, and ampler interior volumes with visibly lower profiles. Catamarans are also more expensive than single-hull counterparts and tend not to stand out that much from the crowd, which probably goes some way to explain why they're not as popular as single hulls with the one-percenters.
Count on Tecnomar, though, to design a cat that looks as if ripped out of the future. This Is It is a good example in this sense: a gorgeous 43.5-meter (143-foot) watercraft, all glass, solar panels, and curves, packed with luxury features that even include a private winter garden. This Is It, which is officially a Cat 130 model, was the inspiration for the Cat 133 FT, in keeping with Tecnomar's promise that it would "set a new benchmark in yacht design."
The difference between the two is that while This Is It brings 750 GT of interior volume, Cat 133 FT falls in the under-500 GT category. It's also shorter, at 40.07 meters (131.5 feet) in total length, and just a hair narrower, with a width of 14.35 meters (47 feet).
With all that, it's still able to offer over 300 square meters (3,229 square meters) of outdoor space, thanks to a smart layout design that leverages the twin hulls and integrates internal wings and foldable side doors.
Tecnomar is still keeping some details of the new cat under wraps, but they do say this: its twin hulls will allow for the creation of an impressive beach club with a swim platform that extends 16 meters (52.5 feet) in width when fully opened.
The exterior of the new cat is penned by Admiral Centro Stile, who will also handle the interiors. The influence of the This Is Cat is notable right away, from the curvy, automotive-like silhouette to the generous use of glazing to erase the boundaries between interior and exterior spaces. The Cat 133 FT comes with aluminum alloy hulls and superstructure.
Another focus with this new model is on the reduction of the vessel's carbon footprint. It will feature almost 70 square meters (753.5 square feet) of solar panels, both on the sides and on the arches framing the sundeck, matching and masked by the black paint accents that highlight the sporty silhouette.
Power comes from twin MAN V12 engines and 50kW electric bow thrusters, with the new cat able to max out at 17 knots (19.5 mph/31.5 kph) and cruise leisurely at 15 knots (17.2 mph/27.8 kph). Accommodation onboard is for 10 guests and an 11-person crew, including the captain.
No word yet on whether a buyer has come along in the time between the first announcement of the concept in 2023 and now. But if there's one thing about Tecnomar yachts one could generalize, it's that these vessels always find buyers no matter how expensive. And let's just put it this way, a Tecnomar yacht isn't for everyone.
