Redesigned for the 2024 model year, the Crosstrek and Impreza have been recalled to the tune of 35,357 vehicles. According to Subaru, insufficient clearance between the instrument panel wiring harness and steering beam bracket may damage the wire insulation.
Subaru of America was informed of this problem in May 2023. Two months later, the Japanese automaker's engineering division acknowledged the aforementioned condition. Subaru is currently aware of a single technical report in the United States market. No fewer than eight part numbers are listed in the document attached below. Notifications will be sent no later than October 3 with instructions to bring affected vehicles in for inspection.
In case of damaged wire insulation, dealers will apply protective tape to the wire. The wiring harness will be replaced only if the wire core is found to be exposed. For all recalled vehicles, the deal tech will install a clamp on the steering beam bracket to prevent contact between said bracket and the wiring harness. According to Subaru, the condition was corrected in series production on June 6 with the addition of the aforementioned clamp.
An estimated 29,561 units of the 2024 model year Crosstrek are called back, with production dates ranging between February 20 and June 6. The Impreza is listed with 5,796 units produced between March 24 and June 6. The Crosstrek is assembled in the US of A and Japan, whereas the Impreza is exclusively built in the Land of the Rising Sun. Speaking of which, this generation of the Impreza dropped the sedan body style in favor of the more practical yet slightly pricier hatchback body style.
The Crosstrek and Impreza are both codenamed GU, which isn't exactly a surprise given how closely related these vehicles are. Based on the Subaru Global Platform, these Scoobies can be specified with either a 2.0-liter boxer engine (FB20D) or a 2.5-liter boxer (FB25D).
Priced at $22,995 before taxes and extras, the Impreza is available in three flavors: Base, Sport, and RS. The five-speed manual of the 2023 model was dropped in favor of the Lineartronic CVT, which simulates eight forward ratios in the case of the Sport and RS trim levels. At press time, the Crosstrek costs $24,995.
Five trims are available to configure as of August 2023, with the most expensive and exciting of the lot being the Wilderness. The third Wilderness after the Outback and Forester starts at $31,995 with 9.3 inches of ground clearance to its name as opposed to 8.7 for lesser trims.

It comes with the 2.5-liter boxer as standard, which boasts 182 direct-injected ponies and 178 pound-feet (241 Nm) on full song. The 2.0-liter boxer, on the other hand, offers 152 horsepower and 145 pound-feet (197 Nm) of torque.
