This ultra-modern home on wheels doesn't just flaunt an eye-catching all-black exterior. Once inside, you'll discover an unexpectedly luxurious layout that redefines tiny living. A welcoming living room, an elegant kitchen, and one of the best bedrooms ever shatter space limitations.
The Long Black isn't actually that long. At 12 meters (39 feet), this home on wheels is definitely bigger than most of its kind but medium compared to other models in the brand's portfolio, like the famous Casita XL. Combined with a 3-meter (9.8 feet) width and 3.6-meter (11.8 feet) height, this length is enough to allow one of the best single-level configurations.

Ideally, this would be a luxurious living option for a couple. Still, it can also be modified to include two smaller bedrooms instead of a large one, which would better suit a small family or a couple who likes to welcome overnight guests often. Each version would ensure the design's main benefit, which comes from the single-level layout. It means no pesky ladders or even staircases, comfortable access for all the rooms, and a seamless flow throughout the entire house, which makes it feel much bigger.

On the outside, the Long Black flaunts the typical New Zealand tiny house look. Unlike most European designs that boast an abundance of wood, often associated with a rustic, cabin-like appearance, Kiwi designs combine an austere, industrial-looking exterior with interiors that embrace the outdoors. The all-black steel structure with a gable roof is meant to ensure maximum durability and resistance while still looking contemporary and sophisticated.

You'll notice multiple windows, some of which can slide, and two separate entries with massive French doors. This is another signature feature of tiny homes built in New Zealand. It blurs the lines between the indoor and the outdoor, creating a living space where people feel truly connected to their natural surroundings.

One of these doors leads straight into the bedroom. This is one of the best bedrooms, in terms of function and style, you'll ever find in a tiny house. First of all, it's as big as it gets – it can easily fit a king-size bed and still have plenty of walk-around space. Secondly, it handles storage in an ingenious way.

You'll discover an entire wall of wardrobes with sliding doors, shelves, and hanging rails. But that's not all. It comes with two compact loft spaces for additional overhead storage. This is a rare feature for tiny house bedrooms, and it's a clever way of adding storage without using any precious floor space. It's one of the few bedrooms where there's actually enough storage space for two people without sacrificing comfort.

One of the best things about this main-floor bedroom is the separate glass door. You not only get full privacy but also the best views and maximum sunlight. It almost feels like a luxury resort bedroom, designed for ultimate relaxation – it's easy to forget you're inside a home on wheels. Plus, there's enough room left for adding décor items and customizing this space with additional shelves, plants, and small furniture items.

This relaxation cocoon is cleverly separated from both the bathroom and the living room for maximum intimacy. The bathroom is compact but fitted with a full-size shower and a large vanity. A big window ensures proper lighting and ventilation. The toilet doesn't come as a standard feature because customers get many options to choose from.

The Long Black's lounge dominates a large part of the house due to its central placement. It fits a sumptuous sofa and a big coffee table, creating the perfect place to entertain guests. Forget tiny nooks for just one or two people, this is an ideal setup for socializing.

Everything is strategically placed in front of the large glass doors. Sliding doors are perfect for turning this room into an outdoor space in a second. When the weather is right, this lounge effectively turns into a modern entertainment space that connects to the outdoors.

The same principle is applied in the Long Black's kitchen. The U-shaped kitchen was a perfect choice for this single-level configuration because it makes the most of all the space available at one end of the house. It comes with premium appliances and room for a full-size fridge. Multiple cabinets, overhead cabinets, and a large pantry offer abundant storage. A modern table and a couple of seats placed right at the end of this U-shaped kitchen create a romantic dining setup.

A large sliding window in the kitchen turns it into an indoor/outdoor space during summer. Even better, the kitchen and the lounge can both become one large entertainment area thanks to the glass sliding doors. It's a wonderful way to enjoy the outdoors while still benefitting from the full privacy of a comfortable, separate bedroom.

It's easy to see why the Long Black would be a perfect vacation rental. Still, it's primarily designed to become a couple's heaven on wheels, exuding the elegance and relaxed vibe of a luxury resort. Pricing for the full build starts at NZ 199,000 ($119,700), but customers can also go for one of the more affordable options and complete it themselves.
