Described as “a giant leap for us” and “a giant leap for you,” the Scala prepares to replace the Rapid in the Czech automaker’s lineup. Considering the outgoing model takes influence from the Volkswagen Santana in China, it was about time Skoda came out with a more European successor.
Going official on December 6th, the Scala has been teased once again, this time around through a video uploaded to Facebook. The most striking detail we encountered in the clip is the Emotion Package, which spurred the curiosity of one Facebook user.

More to the point, Stephen Mason asked: “What does it do, break down in tears and say you don’t love me anymore? Just because you had to leave it outside because you couldn’t put it in the garage?” Humorous criticism aside, the automaker replied that the Emotion Package is “full of interesting design details.”

Another Facebook user came up with the question that a lot of car enthusiasts think about when it comes to cars in this segment. When asked if the entry-level model has drum brakes at the rear, Skoda replied that it’s “introducing an improved design” which “further improves performance and offers adequate power for the standard engine option. Other advantages include simplified and affordable maintenance.”

Among the list of optional equipment, Skoda confirmed full-LED headlights through the teaser attached at the end of the story. The power liftgate (or hatchback door in the case of the Scala), Sport Chassis Control, MIB and MOD 3 infotainment with online services, as well as the Virtual Cockpit digital instrument cluster are a few of the other highlights.

At launch, Skoda will offer the Scala with the 1.0 TSI in two states of tune (95 and 115 PS), the 1.5 TSI (150 horsepower), and 1.6 TDI with 115 ponies on tap. In addition to the five- and six-speed manual transmissions, the third option will come in the guise of the seven-speed DSG.

The list of powertrain options is completed by the 1.0 G-TEC, a three-cylinder turbo designed to run on natural gas (CNG) or gasoline. This engine comes exclusively with 90 PS and the six-speed manual transmission. As for practicality, the Scala promises the roomiest trunk in the segment thanks to 467 liters with the rear seats up and 1,410 liters when folded flat.
